5.0 out of 5 stars HOT !!!, June 26, 2003
By Scott Riggins (Wuerzburg, Germany) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
When you think of "big band" a guitar is not the first instrument that comes to mind. But put that guitar in the hands of Brian Setzer and you've got something HOT! A mix of the big band beat that everybody loves and the driving guitar style of rockabilly's #1 axeman and the joint starts jumping.
This is a compilation from the 4 albums made by the BSO and there are some real diamonds here. A great mix of music - from Glenn Miller to Queen to Louis Prima to Stray Cats songs. You'll hear the fat sound of the horns, the booming upright bass, the drummer going wild and Brian leading the way with a guitar that talks, sings, screams, crys and wails. If you're looking for a real good sample of the BSO in one CD, this is the one you want. The Swing revival is running high and this is one of the bands that started it all. So Hepcats and Kitties - dust off your two-tone shoes and get ready to hit the dance floor - this CD will make you move and groove.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Swinging Party CD, November 28, 2005
By askmrright "Mr. Right" (www.askmrright.com) - See all my reviews
Brian Setzer's interpretation of these standards is great. His rockabilly-infused big band sound breathes new life into some songs that have never been my personal favorites. However, while I do not doubt his artistry and vision, I do wish he'd revive a few standards that are not quite as obscure. Still, this a great effort.
