Editorial Reviews

Rambles, a cultural arts magazine

this CD is really quite excellent -- especially when you consider it's self-produced!

Product Description

In January 2001, we released our Lord of the Rings music tribute song, "Tolkien (The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings)" to MP3.com. Within a month, the song skyrocketed up the charts to #14 of the MP3.com charts out of over two million songs!

Two years later, the Brobdingnagian Bards are at last completing a music CD dedicated to the JRR Tolkien's. This album is soundtrack, if you will for the books, filled with entirely original Lord of the Rings music. It is a mostly instrumental album that aspires to show our memories of the Lord of the Rings music world.

If you enjoy the music of JRR Tolkien, consider checking out the album that started it all--Songs of the Muse which features the original release of our #1 hit song that is still the most-popular Celtic song on MP3.com, "Tolkein (The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings)".

5.0 out of 5 stars Tolkien would be proud, May 13, 2005
By Falcon (Selden, NY) - See all my reviews
I cannot think of any group who could do what the Brobdingnagian Bards do-that is, to capture the spirit of such a classic and record it. This album is a great addition to any Tolkien fan's library. If you are new to Tolkien, or spent hours a day travelling through Middle Earth again and again, you'll love this CD. I know I do! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding piece of work, February 18, 2004
By A Customer
What can I say. This is a fantastic CD! The last reviewer obviously did not listen to the album since it is largely instrumental and features some amazing music that's almost spiritual in nature.

"Hobbit's Dance" is my personal favorite, followed by "The Ring of Hope" which is a beautiful folk ballad from the perspective of Sam Gamgee.

True, there are a couple week songs, like "Legolas", and while I love the "idea" behind "The Psychopathic Chronic Schizophrenic Gollum Blues", I don't think it's quite as funny as it could be. But I have heard it live and they change up the lyrics which makes it even better than ever. "Shadofax" and "Moria" both do a beautiful job at subtlely capturing the magic of their namesakes. And, of course, "Tolkien (The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings)" is absolutely brilliant!

I can't say this album is for everyone though. It's not, but considering you can listen to the album on their webpage or download "Tolkien" for free, there's no reason why anyone should come away disappoineted with buying this CD.

Give it a try. I'm certain you'll love it as much as I do!

5.0 out of 5 stars the song "The Fellowship of the Rings", January 21, 2004
By hagar hahn (Austin,Tx) - See all my reviews
this song is by-far one of the best instrumentals I have ever heard..it is a very calming song that lifts you up and makes you smile...on a scale from 1 to 10,I rate it around 17...it has one of the sweetest recorders you'll ever hear being played...it would be an excellent song to play at a wedding...

5.0 out of 5 stars simply excellent!
This cd is a lovely piece of art. It does well to encompass the feelings behind/inpsired by the books. It is soothing, light-hearted, spirited, deep, lonely, and beautiful. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Stupid
I was very disappointed. The one star I gave it is for the instrumental with the recorder, it was good. I thought the rest was a very poor tribute to LOTR.
