In order to complete its Secure DigitalTM memory range (capacity of 16, 32 and 64 MB) of high security cards DANE-ELEC, European leader in memory extensions, announces the availability of two new Secure DigitalTM memory cards of 256 and 512 MB. The physical characteristics of these cards are, their weight (0.07 ounces) and their size (one sixth of a credit card, i.e. 32 mm x 24 mm x 2.1 mm), particularly well adapted to mobile phones, personal assistants/PDA, MP3 drivers, mobile phones, and to digital equipment such as cameras and videos.

DANE-ELEC’s Secure DigitalTM range comprises 6 cards with 16, 32, 64, 128, 256 and 512 MB of memory capacity. Their rate of data-transfer varies between 2 and 4 MB per second. Compared to the Multi Media CardTM composed of 7 connexion regs, the Secure DigitalTM card is composed of 9 connexion regs. This new organization allows faster transfer of data while the memory card is on SD mode.

On the other hand, the Secure DigitalTM has an integrated security mechanism, the CPRM, Content Protection for Recorder Media, which insures a high degree of protection and file-encryption. It controls the reading, copying, transfer and data elimination functions. In this way it becomes possible for the user to forbid or authorize the copy or and a reproduction right.

The Secure Digital memory card is a memory specifically developed to meet security requirements, which have recently appeared in the field of electronic audio and video devices. It includes a Copyright protection mechanism, which complies with the SDMI standard (Secure Digital Music Initiative). The file protection and encryption system (CPRM: Content Protection for Recordable Media) is integrated into the SD card. The SD card's interface supports standard MMC card operations.

The camera was not that old but replacing the memory card was a challenge. No one carried a card lower than 1G and the camera seemed overwhelmed. I put in this 256mb card and everything was golden. A new camera can wait.
