Product Description

Amazon.com

Made by renowned French cutlery manufacturer Sabatier, this knife set also has the honor of being endorsed by celebrity chef Daniel Boulud, who is known for his meticulousness in choosing both ingredients and high-quality kitchen equipment. The five knives in this set comprise the kitchen essentials and include an 8-inch chef’s knife; an 8-inch slicer; a 6-inch utility knife; a 5-inch tomato knife; and a 3-1/2-inch paring knife. The high-carbon stainless-steel knife blades are stamped with hand-honed blades for sharpness and adequately sized bolsters for balance. The full tangs provide a weighty grip and are securely triple-riveted to beautiful handles made of a rich, striated Spanish Pakka wood that has been coated for durability. To keep knife blades sharp, the set includes a ceramic steel, which is the second-strongest sharpening material available next to diamond dust. All cutlery is housed in a wood block of a seemingly Asian-inspired design, consisting of two diagonally aligned slim blonde wood "tablets," which are held up on each side by a contrasting strip of darker wood. The block balances rather precariously on a countertop, but makes a dramatic presentation in a contemporary prep area. --Cristina Vaamonde

2.0 out of 5 stars France versus China, April 1, 2004
The knives are not bad - although they certainly need sharpening at once before the first usage. The handles are comfortable and they look great. In two weeks, however, I've already had two sets of these knives and am negotiating with Amazon about getting the third replacement. The problem is the block made in China - this time it certainly does not mean even the remotest sense of quality. First time, the block did not have an appropriate hole for the sharpener tool, second time the block was already broken when I opened the box. What really amazes me is that Amazon this time has not been really efficient in helping to resolve these problems. So, if you'd like to risk and get these knives like I did for $69.99, you might just be lucky and get a block that has all the right holes for knives and sharpener. If not, - you've been warned!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Knife Set, December 3, 2003
By "thebodins" (Denver, CO United States) - See all my reviews
This is a very nice set, even nicer than I expected from the picture. If you want a contemporary looking set this is it. The quality is also very nice, especially considering the price, this set is manufactured in Sabatier's facilities in France. Just got it today, We have not had a chance to use it a lot, but so far it looks like a real winner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good set of knives, February 26, 2004
By "howardtiane" (Rome, GA United States) - See all my reviews
If you want a set of knives with a comptemporary display, these are the ones to get. I ordered these knives for a friend for his birthday and he loves them. I got to use them and I like them a lot. They are quite sharp and they are comfortable in the hand. They are made in France and not China so the quality is much better. Has a Ceramic steel so that is a plus. If you don't want to spend that much on a good set of knives, I would recommend this.
