Editorial Reviews

From the Artist
A supernatural drama from Spelling Television, airing on the WB Network, Charmed chronicles the conflicts and love among three vastly different sisters, and their need to come together to fulfill an ancient witchcraft prophecy. Staring Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan and Holly Marie Combs, the series is one of the network’s top rated show with a loyal fan base who tune in each week to experience the adventures of the Halliwell sisters. Having passed the landmark 100-episode airing in early 2003, the sixth season begins this September, with the Charmed Ones are stronger and more united than ever.

Product Description
Charmed: The Soundtrack features hot tracks from Smash Mouth, Third Eye Blind, Vanessa Carlton and Rachael Yamagata, as well as the 'Charmed' theme song from Love Spit Love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eclectic collection of songs make for one WITCHY album!!, September 25, 2003
My first impression? "What have they DONE?!" The "Charmed" soundtrack is a collection of songs that will mainly appear in Season 6, which starts on September 28, 2003. So, needless to say, I recognized very few of the songs. However, by my third or fourth listen to the album, I must say the CD is really growing on me. It's an eclectic collection of songs that will really please any fan.

1. "Hot" by Smash Mouth - What a FABULOUS way to start off the album - with a song that makes you want to get up and dance!! Smash Mouth has done it again with this song that'll have everyone bopping in their chairs.

2. "Danger" by Third Eye Blind - This song showcases a strangely retro/rock sound. I find it to be vaguely reminiscent of a generic song released in the 80s and re-vamped rock-style for the year 2003 - something those older fans and new fans alike with both appreciate.

3. "Strict Machine" by Goldfrapp - With its infectious bass-line and techno-sounds, this song - with its haunting vocals - is a great addition to the album. It captures the dark and mysterious side of the "Charmed" ones.

4. "Maybe Tomorrow" by Stereophonics - Starting slow and sultry, with it's guitar and drums, we're greeted by the raspy voice of the lead singer. Certainly not what we were expecting, but it definately gives this song a flavor of it's own. (On a side note, the lyrics of this song remind me of Paige, stating, "So maybe tomorrow/I'll find my way home." Paige is still very much trying to find her way as a witch, and as a woman...)

5. "Rinse" by Vanessa Carlton - This is my FAVORITE song on the album. This is an absolutely BEAUTIFULLY haunting and mesmerizing song that reminds us that while "Charmed" may be a show about witches, first and foremost it is a show about women.

6. "I Can't Take It" by Andy Stochansky - This is a song that brings us back up after "Rinse". Another vaguely reminiscent song of the 80s, with it's hard hitting drum line and frequently changing tempo.

7. "Worn Me Down" by Rachel Yamagata - This song features a very different sound. It verges on the edge of Annie Lenox, with a moderately fast tempo. I almost want to say that I detect an ever so subtle accent from Rachel. It gives the song that much more mystery.

8. "Do You Realize" by The Flaming Lips - This song sounds to me as it if could have come from an old Beatles album. It almost sounds like it could have been a sing-a-long song, with its "chorus" of voices singing certain parts. Very different.

9. "New Favorite Thing" by Balligomingo - This song offers a breath of fresh air to the album, with Lucy Woodward offering her pop-ish style and very light and beautiful vocals. This adds to the eclectic nature of the album, bringing pop together with techno.

10. "Rainbow In The Sky" by Ziggy Marley - Okay, it's Ziggy Marley - need I say more?? This song an absolutely wonderful reggae song, stating "There's a rainbow in the sky/All the time." I guarantee you'll find yourself dancing in your chair.

11. "How Soon Is Now?" by Love Spit Love - This is the theme song from the show. Most listeners will listen and say, "Did they do a re-mix for the show?" And the answer is, "No". They simply took this song and spliced it to the theme we have now. This song sums up the entire show in 9 simple words - "I am human and I need to be loved..."

This album certainly has something for everyone, and is a great way for new bands to get themselves heard. Who knew there was so much un-discovered talent laying around, waiting to be discovered? I highly suggest this album for "Charmed" fans and those who just have an eclectic taste for music. There's something for everyone on this album. Hope you enjoy it as much as I am!!

5.0 out of 5 stars I Am The Son and The Heir, December 19, 2003
By Little M (Camden, Ohio) - See all my reviews
I'm very surprised by this soundtrack. I only recently became a fan of this show. After watching a few of the shows, I really fell in love with the theme of the show and wished like crazy that they would take it and put it on a soundtrack and what do you know, they did it! I was still weary of buying the entire CD though because I hate buying a CD for only one song, that has to be the biggest disappointment of any avid music collector. Still I love the show and I love "How Soon Is Now?" by Love Spit Love so I bought it. After listening to it all thoroughly there are some real good tunes here. The song "Maybe Tomorrow" by Stereophonics really stands out to me and it has quickly become one of my favorite songs of the moment. I also love the song "Strict Machine" by GoldFrapp. I love the show and now I've fallen in love with it's "soundtrack". The music doesn't sound like it's geared toward a teen audience, there is some real mature and well developed music here. Give it a try.

3.0 out of 5 stars Charmed -- The Soundtrack, February 28, 2006
The reason why I gave this CD only a "3" was because I really only bought it for one song -- "How Soon Is Now" (the theme song for the show). I must say that they've edited it cunningly for use as the theme song, so if you purchase this like I did expecting to hear the version used on the show, the version of this CD is slightly different, but it's still a great song. If you want to hear a really great version of this song, buy the Smiths "The Singles" and hear the original.
