Editorial Reviews

Product Description
At the forefront of the new wave coming from the other side of Atlantic, BLUE SHIFT could be seen as a major revelation ! Without any doubt, "Not The Future I Ordered" is one of the most interesting albums of the year 1997. This band plays a flashy and creative Progressive rock from the other side of the world. Their sound is huge, both on the acoustic guitar parts and on the whole sound. The YES influence (From the glorious early days to the Trevor RABIN era) is noticeable without being a nuisance. The stunning LED ZEPPELIN cover ("Immigrant Song") proves, if needed, that the American group has lots of other talents to share. The whole reminds of the way SPOCK'S BEARD recently realised a successful and modern synthesis of the Progressive rock legacy. In any case, you can’t afford to miss this !!!…

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent progressive music out of the Yes school, February 22, 2007
By WaltSnipe "nude emperor-spotter" (Austin, Tx United States) - See all my reviews
It's certainly refreshing to hear a band that has the courage (and rare skill) to launch out into progressive, original music from the starting place of the Yes school as opposed to the Genesis school. I think few bands do this because few bands can, from a pure chops point of view, but Yes wasn't just about chops....it was about power, grace, passion, and wide ranges of dynamics. These are the things that distinguish it from Genesis and the oft-copied Genesis neo-prog bands. Blue Shift sounds like a strange hybrid of all the Yes lineups from Tales of Topographic Oceans through 90125, yet avoids sounding like a talented Starcastle copycat through arrangements and lyrical contect that are uniquely their own, and through outstanding, ultra-modern digital production. Still, the Yes influence is certainly there, particularly in the guitar playing of Joey Backenstoe. A wide range of guitars are used, and a wide variety of guitar playing styles are in evidence. I mean, how many albums can you name where you hear a song (here, "Rome") that was obviously influenced by the greatest song Yes ever did...."Awaken"? Not many....(the only one that comes to mind if "Every Bloody Emperor" off the Van der Graaf Generator reunion album Present). Great stuff, and it's a damn shame that they only made one album. Pick this up while you can.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow... A potential mega band, February 24, 2006
Not the future I ordered by Blue Shift is, in my opinion, one of the best revelations / new super band in the last 10 years. I have been hearing music for more than 20 years, specially prog/symphonic/rock , and this is one of those band that caught my attention since the first time I heard them. They simply blew my mind. Just listen to the first song and you will see what I am talking about. This song alone worth the cd.

Even though the influences of bands like Yes and Kansas are there, I find Blue Shift very original and unique. Nothing That I'd heard before sounds like Blue Shift.
If you are a prog fan you can't go wrong with this cd. It's a must for any prog collector.

I guarantee you won't be disappointed

5.0 out of 5 stars Like '80s but better, January 6, 2008
This album is a mix of the interesting moments Yes' 98125 and Big Generator plus bits of Dream Theater. There is good cover of Led Zeps "Immigrant Song."
