Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

With this user-friendly mandoline slicer, making uniform, precise slices of apples, potatoes, cucumbers, carrots, and other produce is simple. To slice, simply slide the fruit or vegetable along the mandoline's stainless-steel "runway", which is textured to prevent food from sticking. The tool's stainless-steel slicing blade features a straight side for straight slices and a wavy side for crinkle cuts and waffle cuts. A soft grip area allows for safely removing and inserting this blade. The unit also provides a rotating cylinder with two sets of stainless-steel julienne blades. The row of blades set close together makes 1/8-inch square julienne strips. The row of blades set farther apart makes 3/8-inch square julienne strips. The cylinder is also used for adjusting the thickness of straight, crinkle, or waffle cuts, with thickness measurements indicated on its soft easy-turn knob.

Other useful features include a large food holder that protects fingers from the blades and a soft handle below the runway that ensures a safe, out-of-the-way grip. The kitchen tool's ergonomic design slants for ease of motion, is curved for easy food accumulation underneath, and provides wide, non-slip feet to keep the mandoline slicer stable and secure on the countertop. The blades remove effortlessly for cleaning and for convenient storage, all blades store on board, the legs fold compactly, and the food holder snaps underneath. The mandoline slicer measures approximately 15 by 5 by 5 inches and carries a limited lifetime warranty.

Product Description

OXO's user-friendly Mandoline is the perfect tool for creating culinary sensations quickly and easily. Straight and wavy blades can be set to any slice thickness and are ideal for making cucumber salad, potato chips, onion rings, and citrus slices, and try making french fries, carrot sticks and garnishes with the thin and thick julienne blades. Just turn the soft dial to select your slice thickness or julienne setting. A soft handle set lower than the body ensures a comfortable grip and keeps your hand out of the way. Wide, non-slip feet keep the Mandoline stable and secure on the countertop. The large food holder holds food securely, protects fingers and has a soft grip for added comfort. Storage is a snap. All blades store on board for added safety and convenience, the legs fold compactly, and the food holder snaps underneath.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good and bad points, January 16, 2005
By emfdvm "emfdvm" (Oakton, VA) - See all my reviews
I've had this mandoline about 4 months after reading the recommendation of a Washington Post writer. It has worked well enough, but I sometimes wonder if the Boerner V-slicer would have been a better purchase. The blade is *not* that sharp, although it does a good enough job on potatoes, my main use for it. It is easy to clean and the blades are all right there when you need them, but I have one big gripe. The holder/pusher seems to "grasp" a lot of whatever you are cutting, leaving huge chunks of leftover potato, cucumber, carrot or whatever. My objective is not to throw away 15-20% of my vegetables.
Addition to review: returned said mandoline and replaced with Boerner V-slicer. No comparison! The V-slicer is sharper, easy to use, and doesn't waste large chunks of vegetable. It Sliced cukes and tomatoes with ease!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product, very easy and safe to use, August 14, 2006
An avid home cook that is a collector of both cookbooks and cooking gadgets writes this review. I am a fairly accomplished home cook and own more than my share of kitchen gadgets. I received this product as a birthday present a few years ago and have been more than satisfied with its performance. I have summarized my observations of this product below:

Pros:
1. Makes perfect thin slices every time
2. Stays sharp longer than I expected it to.
3. Easy to disassemble to sharpen the blade
4. Simple to clean, I usually hand wash it
5. Small size means it is easy to store
6. Very easy to change thickness settings and large easy to read dial
7. Apparently well made. I expected the plastic would have given up by now with the repetitive use this gets at my house. But, it is still going strong two years after purchase.

Cons:
1. I wish the documents that came with the device had told the customer to remove the blade and sharpen it regularly as I believe this would increase customer satisfaction.

Overall I highly recommend this product anyone that slices a lot of vegetables. I embarked on a mostly vegan lifestyle about 4 months ago and I slice a lot of vegetables. If you are looking for something that is fast, this is very helpful to have in the kitchen. It is important to remember that this item is essentially a knife a on a stand. Just like a knife needs to be sharpened periodically so does this blade. If you don't sharpen it will not function as intended. As long as you are comfortable sharpening your knives you can purchase this product with confidence that it will get the job done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, September 30, 2004
By K. Stephens (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Mine works wonderfully. The blades are razor sharp and come covered with a thin plastic strip for protection. Perhaps the previous reviewer failed to notice this and remove the strip? The only issue I've found is that the plastic legs are somewhat fragile. After two uses, one of the legs snapped off just below the hinge joint. I'm getting a replacement, though, as I'm very pleased with this tool otherwise.
