From the Manufacturer

Suitcase X1 is the professional-level font management solution for Mac OS X. With unmatched font preview options, auto-activation, and more, Suitcase is the must-have application for serious font users.

Unmatched Font Preview Options

Having the ability to visually compare fonts is a critical component to the creative workflow. Suitcase X1 gives you the power to preview fonts several different ways without activating them, including the ability to enter custom text or preview multiple fonts at the same time.

Multiple Font Activation Options

With the flexibility to fit your workflow, Suitcase provides multiple font activation options, including the ability to activate fonts directly from the Preview Pane.

Auto-Activate Fonts

Save time by letting Suitcase X1 auto-activate your fonts for you. Suitcase provides global auto-activation for the most popular Mac OS X applications, as well as auto-activation plug-ins for Adobe applications and for QuarkXPress.

Find the Right Font Fast

Suitcase’s new QuickFind feature can instantly find the font you need based on its name, style, or keyword. Or use the customizable Find command to locate a font based on more specific criteria.

You can organize your fonts using Suitcase’s built-in style list or add your own custom keywords. Suitcase will automatically scan for font styles as new fonts are added to the database.

Corrupt Font Detection and Repair

Suitcase takes on corrupt font problems so you don’t have to. Suitcase automatically scans fonts to see if they are corrupt and will try to repair the font or warn you when you try to add it.

Resolves Duplicate Font Issues

Are you sure you’re using the right version of Helvetica? Suitcase X1 will detect and report on any duplicate fonts that you have in your database. In addition, Suitcase provides an easy-to-use method of cleaning up duplicate fonts and ensuring that you have the exact font that you want.

Activate Fonts on Demand

Fonts activated on demand are added and activated temporarily. If any font conflicts arise, Suitcase resolves them for you. You no longer need to activate and deactivate fonts for each new file. Suitcase does all the work for you.

Suitcase includes FontBook, the ultimate font utility for creating a complete overview of all your fonts. FontBook can print sample pages in 24 different predefined layout pages, including reference cards, font sizes, ASCII tables, and much more.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unstable, April 21, 2005
This program is buggy. Stick with font book that comes with OSX. This release has problems with:

Not saving settings, not loading fonts correctly for use, constant conflict problems, Ive had multiple problems with the program crashing on startup requiring me to go in and manually clean out fonts. I never write reviews but the amount of headache this program has given me prompted me to spread the word. AVOID SUITCASE AT ALL COSTS!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy Suitcase, October 8, 2004

I bought this because I'm a graphic designer and I have 1000+ fonts on my system at once. And that can really slow things down, and it can also really cause problems if just one of those fonts gets corrupted. So I thought I needed a big "powerful" solution like Suitcase. Turns out, the Font Book that is PART of OS X Panther, does everything I need. It lets you preview fonts, it lets you disable and enable them. Its a very powerful little app, and its FREE. Font Suitcase sucks. It doesn't seem to work at all. Its manual does very little to really explain how your supposed to really use the app. It doesn't explain things well at all. I'm a pretty smart guy, and I couldn't figure out how to get all my fonts into the program properly, and when I could get them to show up, I couldn't turn any of them on or off. Suitcase is a mess. It is a waste of money and a waste of time. Font Book, that comes with OS X 10.3 is the best app. So simple, so easy to use, so effective. So Apple.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the 'must-have' solution it used to be!, November 13, 2006
I've been a Macintosh consultant to graphic artists for over 15 years. Suitcase was always THE solution for font management. However, Extensis was never able to get X1 working under Mac OS X. I suggest you avoid this version at all costs. After several rounds with Extensis tech support, whose advice consisted mostly of ineffective and unhelpful (but lengthy) procedures, I gave up and switched to FontAgent Pro. I haven't had a SINGLE crash in the year since I made that move. Compare that with the almost daily crashes of Suitcase X1 under Mac OS 10.4.x. Buyer beware.

On the plus side (hehe) the included FontDoctor and Font Book are great little programs. They can be purchased separately, however.
