Vinogradov has the voice of an angel. A young, vulnerable, sensitive, beautiful tenor- a voice with a "face", as Richard Caniell says. Engineer Caniell collected and revitalized a wide selection of recordings of this mysterious Russian tenor, who seems to have been banned from the stage by Soviet authorities, possibly for some youthful military incident. Vinogradov performed on the radio and made many recordings; here is a treasure trove of his legacy, supplemented with Caniell's excellent notes.

Caniell has presented a museum quality ensemble of Vinogradov's recordings, including a complete Die Schöne Müllerin in Russian that is as lovely, romantic and believable as Aksel Schiøtz's legendary recording. Vinogradov is one of the finest Russian tenors I've ever heard, in the tradition of Leonid Sobinov, and this is a generous sampling of his work.
