Editorial Reviews

About the Artist

Bobby Bethoney is a Boston based drummer with three decades of drumming behind him. He makes himself available for Arabic artists touring North America and are in need of a drummer for shows. He teaches private drum lessons and is also a studio drummer. The idea for his debut CD was suggested by his students. They wanted a CD that demonstrates the traditional Arabic beats, without all the "changes" in the pattern that one now hears when listening to popular Arabic music. "Lessons are very important to me as well as the live shows that I try to work." The CD has grown so quickly in popularity, that I'm now in preproduction work on my second CD.

Product Description

"Middle Eastern beats played on Western style drums." Traditional Arabic drum beats have been played on a hand drum also called a "Tublah". This instrumental recording of eight popular drum beats, are played on a drum set. Acompanied by several Arabic percussion and string instruments, this CD is both a teaching device for drummers as well as a great CD for everybodys listening pleasure. Dance-able and alive! Bellydancers and dance instructors have used my work for shows as well as in class rooms. Over 500 units have been sold since July, 2003 It is especially liked by those who need to hear a drum beat demonstrated without fancy drum "fills" and loud "cymbols" Track five, features a drum solo! Bobby Bethoney will not let you down!

5.0 out of 5 stars Explore new rhythms - these tracks are infectious, July 8, 2004
By Jason Smith (Oakland, CA USA) - See all my reviews
Yes, I am a drummer so I am biased. I am always interested in hearing rhythmic music. Wait...doesn't all music have rhythm? Well, yes, but some rhythms lolly-gag and suggest while letting the melody do the driving. Not the case with Arabic Rhythms. This CD is chock full of great grooves with an Eastern influence. The rhythms are not so intricate (multitude of changing time signatures) that you are left off balance. Bobby Bethoney gives you time to get in the groove and stay there. Lots of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Arabic Rhythms, June 19, 2004
By A Customer
I first heared the CD at Bobbys web site, www.arabicdrums.com
I wasn't very impressed but I bought one CD anyway. I recieved my CD about a week later and I have not been able to stop listening to it. I am a drummer and hear something new every time I listen to it. My girlfriends Mom loves it too! She listens to it every morning when she does her Aerobics. I have since seen the CD in the store and at other Internet websites, but not as cheap as Amazon is selling it for.
I especialy like tracks 4,5,6,and 8. I have been able to duplicate much of the material on my drums and I feel the overall use of the CD as a teaching device has been very good.
I hope to hear Bobby perform when the next Arabic Artist is performing in town. I imagine he adds a great deal to the show.
Buy the CD if you like drumming. Buy the CD if you love the sounds of Middle Eastern Music. Thank you for your time. Mag.U.S.A
