Good fun and good laughs, but not on babies, April 27, 2007
Hello again from your favorite jokester! Even though I had limited success with the googly eye ring set, I thought I could still have some fun with these crazy, loopy eyes, so I bought the Wiggle Eyes 5mm-30mmPaste-On 120/pkg, chose two different-sized eyes, borrowed my baby niece, pasted those eyes onto her sleeping eyelids, and then took her, snug in her carrier, to all the public places I could think of to see people's reactions when they looked at her crazily jiggling wiggle eyes.
Most people laughed when they looked into the carrier, but then stopped laughing when they realized the wiggle eyes were pasted onto a real baby, at which point they called me a terrible person and child abuser.
The last person I showed my niece to was a woman on the bus who was carrying a child of her own. "Excuse me, ma'am," I said to her, "I think something's wrong with my child. Would you mind taking a look at her?" The woman looked into the carrier, smiled, and told me she didn't see anything wrong. Didn't see anything wrong? Was she crazy? I then looked into her carrier and saw that her baby also had wiggle eyes. "Oh, I see," I told her, "you're pulling the same joke with your baby."
"What joke?" the woman asked.
"The fake wiggle eyes," I answered.
"You think my child's eye condition is a joke!" she yelled at me, "You think it's funny that my child's abnormally large eyes wiggle uncontrollably!?!"
Oooooh boy. I had no idea I was ridiculing an actual medical condition. I tried to apologize, but the woman became even more upset, so I let myself off at the next bus stop. My troubles didn't end there, however, when I brought my niece, still sleeping, back to my sister. She took one look at the wiggle eyes pasted on her sleeping daughter and then slugged me.
I love these eyes. No matter how many times I am slugged, I will always love these jiggling, spinning wiggle (aka googly) eyes.
