5.0 out of 5 stars AHOI! The new EISBRECHER is launched!, January 30, 2004
After birthing 2 singles in 2003 ("Mein Blut" and "Fanatica"), the first full length CD from former MEGAHERZ members Alexx Wesselsky and Noel Pix is here. Alexx's voice is still larger than life, smooth and sexy....but with "Eisbrecher" the tone is deeper, darker, and more detached. The music is focused on electronics with guitars merely used as brief accents. I would class the music as more Dark Wave/EBM....but with a song like "Angst" on the CD, it is clear that not all of their former metal roots have been completely severed!

The CD clocks in at just over 60 minutes. There is also a bonus DVD which includes a feature spotlight aired on ONYX TV in Germany, a picture galerie, and an informal Interview with the band. The DVD is in the European PAL format which will not be compatible with USA and Canadian NTSC format DVD players, but it can viewed via computer if you have a DVD reader installed.

My personal favourites from the CD are "Schwarze Witwe" and "Frage". This CD should appeal to fans of Megaherz who are willing to sacrifice a little bit of their rock/metal mania and follow a trippier EBM route. Fans of Rammstein, OOMPH!, Nine Inch Nails, and KMFDM should also find EISBRECHER a clean fit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Debut!!!, April 15, 2004
By Grieche (PA United States) - See all my reviews
The songs are rated on a scale of 1-5 with 5 being the best.

Polarstern - 5/5 - It's very "industrial" feeling, I love the three-language element. (German, Russian, French). It sets the stage beautifully for this album!

Herz Steht Still - 5/5 - The song has the ability to send chills up and down my body. Especially at @3:14 in the song... the mechanical sound.

Willkommen im Nichts - 4/5 - The song showcases Alexx's deep voice very well.

Schwarze Witwe - 5/5 - The female voices in this fit so beautifully; the instrumentals in this song take me back to the late-80s/early90s a little bit.

Ruhe - 2/5 - I like the piano in this track and the song is beautiful! It's just kind of dissapointing in its short length.

Angst? - 3/5 - Very Metalhead-friendly song.

Fanatica - 4/5 - Very addictive song with a lot of interesting meaning with replayability.

Taub-Stumm-Blind - 4/5 - I really love the Cathedral-organ in the begining. At @1:37 I like the eastern-element to the song which repeats several times throughout.

Dornentanz - 4/5 - Again the depth of Al's voice in this song is great. It's a nice slower song, kind of puts one into a trance and calms one down.

Hoffnung - 5/5 - Again, puts me into a trance and goes extremely well after Dornentanz. It carries on the dark cathedral setting I have already created in my mind from the past few songs. This is fully instrumental; one that is executed quite well.

Eisbrecher - 5/5 - Everything about this song is perfect and very upbeat. It starts off with the sound of perhaps a Penguin saying "eisberg" as it echos through the icey landscape and then the power of the music slams in.

Frage - 5/5 - It has an awesome, awesome hook in it. This song might just be the star of the album.

Zeichen der Venus - 5/5

Mein Blut - 5/5 - This song drips of the essence of Eisbrecher to me. The "kyrie eleison" bits in it... the wind chimes in the begining ushering in a cold wind and a dreamlike state... ahhh yes perfection!

Sakrileg 11 - 2/5 - This song I am not too fond of, but in time it does grow on you.

Fanatica Club Mix - 3/5 - Nice winding down of the album; I have found myself enjoying it more within the context of the album than on the Fanatica single. It kind of foreshadows to Eisbrecher's future: "There will be more dancing to come...."

This is truly AMAZING work from Alexx Wesselsky and Noel Pix! Their hard work and dedication to their art shows. It's brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars From Megaherz to Eisbrecher, March 13, 2004
By A Customer
Eisbrecher was born from a band called Megaherz which I'm a big fan of. They both make great music. Although Megaherz has more guitar and Eisbrecher is more elecronic, they seem like perfect compliments to each other. This being Eisbrecher's first album is amazing and reflects their experience and talent with music. This band is also very good with allowing you to download song samples from their site to let you see for yourself if you like it. That said, this album is very good and a must for the german-music-listener community out there (Rammstein, Megaherz, Oomph fans)
