3.0 out of 5 stars Pros and Cons, October 16, 2006
This review is from: Evenflo Comfort Select Dual Auto-Cycling Breast Pump (Baby Product)
I have had this pump for about a week and used it 9 or 10 times for 20 minutes each time. I got it b/c my milk supply has been dwindling with a single pump and I need to increase it (supposedly double-pumping is better for emptying out both breasts and increasing supply, no matter how long you pump with a single).

The pump has its pros and cons. For me, it worked fine. I have not had a problem with milk backing up (some other users suggested that it needs to be dry; since I always wash it right after using, it's dry again by the next time I use it). It doesn't hurt any more or less than my Avent IQ Uno single electric pump. I get just as much or more milk in less time than with the Avent (due to pumping both breasts at once). I agree with other users that the side without the motor is a bit weaker, but I just switch sides after 10 minutes and it's no big deal.

On the other hand, it is LOUD! I was hoping to take it to work, but I don't want everyone in the office to hear it. (I pump in a conference room with a real door, but you would still be able to hear it!) So I just use it at home on my lunch break and before I go to bed (we use the closed captions on the TV so we can still watch TV while I pump). There are a lot of small parts, and it's hard to wash inside the narrow passages of the funnel section. I always wash it immediately, because if milk dried in there, it would be hard to ever get it out...and I can't wipe it out with my sanitizing wipes (another reason I don't use it at work). And it is more of a pain to assemble than the Avent.

Since I only plan on pumping for a few more months (my baby is 8 1/2 months old), it wouldn't be worth it to pay $300 for a Pump-in-Style or whatever. This isn't the greatest, mainly due to the noise (and I can't be sure about its longevity yet), but if it lasts for its warranty period, it will have done the job I bought it for!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!, August 12, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Evenflo Comfort Select Dual Auto-Cycling Breast Pump (Baby Product)
Okay guys, though I know some of you have had problems with this pump, I must say that once I learned to use it correctly, it's been great for me. I have a five month old who relies on the pump when I'm away. I pump about 6 ounces from each breast while at work. All you have to do is use the gerber 8 ounce bottles (or other similar) instead of the 4 ounce bottles supplied. I too had problems during the first few uses with suction strength, but the instruction book provided has a problem solving page. You can also go to the evenflo website for help. I've found that if you're pumping and have poor suction it's because the pump is put together loosely. Try putting it together again snuggly and moisten the rim of the purple valve, and the blue valve. They also suggest you moisten the breast suction cup to provide a strong grip. Since I've followed these steps, I've had zero problems and can pump 12 ounces. I've heard so many great things about the medela that I rented one -- hospital grade-- just to see the difference and I have to say that I pumped just as much milk from the medela (Lactina), as the evenflo in about the same amount of time -- 15 minutes. So don't waste your money on the expensive pumps and buy this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY IF YOU PUMP MORE THAN ONCE A DAY!, March 6, 2007
This review is from: Evenflo Comfort Select Dual Auto-Cycling Breast Pump (Baby Product)
This was the second pump I purchased. I was hoping that it would turn out better than the first brand I bought. This pump is a pain in the neck to put together and the pump that is not hooked to the AC plug in is much weaker than the other side. The motor died out after 2 weeks of use. This pump is not meant for everyday use. I just bought a Medala and I hope to have a better expeirence with it.
