Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

The Cure and a reggae beat certainly make strange bedfellows as, one assumes, do Adam Sandler and a girl with no short-term memory. In that sense, the 50 First Dates soundtrack is a good accompaniment to a fluffy romantic comedy in which one of the main characters is perpetually living in the past. It's also a fitting follow-up to that other Sandler/Barrymore vehicle, The Wedding Singer. (Take a set by Robbie Hart, add a topical shirt, and voilá: a new soundtrack is born.) To those who can't get enough of '80s hits like Bryan Ferry's "Slave to Love" and the Cars' "Drive," setting them to a island beat will likely seem whimsical, charming, and perfect for barbecue weather. For those who are glad the '80s are gone, this CD is a pass. And for Sandler-completeists who crave lighthearted, comic tunes like "Forgetful Lucy," well, you obviously own this already. --Leah Weathersby

2.0 out of 5 stars Here's What You've Been Missing..., December 1, 2004
By Sarah Core (Washington, PA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've received dozens of emails regarding my original review, so here's the new version.

I, too, was disappointed with the songs included on this soundtrack to the great movie, "50 First Dates." So I went onto the Internet Movie Database, where I found a listing of all the songs that played in the film. Curious, I went through the movie (many times) and listened carefully for all of the songs that I love that are missing from the soundtrack. They are now listed below for everyone's enjoyment! You can buy them online or use a peer-to-peer program to download them yourself. I have the songs listed in order of appearance in the movie.

2.0 out of 5 stars Where's IZ?, March 17, 2004
By Janet Arrowsmith-lowe "arrowsmith10" (Ruidoso, New Mexico United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Good songs, the Adam Sandler ditty is cute, but where's IZ? The fabulous version of Over the Rainbow that closed the movie is MISSING! And it isn't revealed until you buy the album. Even then it's only revealed if you were expecting to hear it.

I loved the movie and fully expected the soundtrack to be a complete version of the movie soundtrack. It was a disappointment for that track to be absent. It doesn't kill the CD, but the CD is less than it could have been both as a reflection of the movie and in terms of basic truth in advertising. This is not the complete movie soundtrack.

5.0 out of 5 stars 50 First Dates Soundtrack, November 19, 2004
Hey, this is one of my favorite CDs but I was upset the 'Somewhere over the rainbow' song was not on it. So I decide to go and find it for everyone like me that likes it. The artist name is Israel Kamakawiwo'ole (IZ) and it is available on his CD "Facing Future or the 'Met Joe Black' soundtrack. Hope this makes it better for the music lovers out there.

When I ordered this product, I expected to hear all the songs from the movie, but it was more of a regae soundtrack. The only song I really liked was "Love Song" by 311.
