Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Set against the decadent glamour and escalating danger of revolution-eve Cuba, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights re-imagines the 1987 film phenomenon from an exciting new perspective. Havana Nights tells a timeless story of a young woman's discovery of love, sensuality and independence - but with a sizzling style and rhythm all its own. In planning this new chapter in a beloved franchise, Artisan Entertainment and Miramax Films have put together a team of creative dynamos from the worlds of film, music and dance. Among them: maverick independent producer Lawrence Bender (Pulp Fiction, Good Will Hunting); executive producer Sarah Green (Frida); Academy Award. winning screenwriter Ron Bass (Rain Man, My Best Friend's Wedding); director Guy Ferland; screenwriter Pamela Gray (A Walk on the Moon); choreographer Joanne Jansen; music industry legend Clive Davis, whose hot J Records imprint will release the soundtrack; acclaimed actor Diego Luna, a rising star following his performance in the sexy sensation Y Tu Mama Tambiin; and, in what promises to be a breakout role, gifted young actress Romola Garai (recently seen in Nicholas Nickleby). The resulting film is certain to give audiences - from newcomers to those who cherish the first Dirty Dancing - the time of their lives, and then some!

4.0 out of 5 stars songs you can dance to, September 6, 2005
The Dirty Dancing Havana Nights Soundtrack brings in a new combination of music that includes African-Cuban rhythms to Latin Ballroom beats. Each tract brings in a beat that makes you move.

Tract One: Dance Like This by Wyclef Jean featuring Claudette Ordiz, starts the album off with an outrageous beat that makes your heart pound.

Tract Two: Dirty Dancing by the Black Eyed Peas do a tremendous job to make this song come alive with a combination of Spanish and English lyrics. Dirty Dancing is such an appealing song to dance to.

Tract Three: Guajira (I love U 2 Much) by Yerba Buena is a song I can visualize hearing it in a Cuban night club. This artist did a wonderful job with this song.

Tract Four: Can I Walk By song by Jazze Pha featuring Monica gives a touch of pop music to the mix. It has a good beat and a wonderful balance between the artist.

Tract Five: Satellite by Santana featuring Jorge Moreno is a Mexican style of music. If you've heard of Santana, then you probably already know what the tract sounds like. With Satellite you can almost get off your feet and do the salsa.

Tract Six: El Deso Den Final by Christina Augilera has the softer side of music in the album. She does an amazing job to make this song very peaceful sounding.

Tract Seven: Represent, Cuba by Orishas featuring Heather Headley is a Cuban rhythm that makes you melt with every second of it.

Tract Eight: Do You Only Wanna Dance song by Mya is the Latin Ballroom dancing for any age. Just grab your partner, look deep into their eyes and move to the beat.

Tract Nine: You Sent Me by Shawn Kane brings in a 50's song that doesn't fit with the rest of the album, but works well with the movie itself.

Tract Ten: El Estuche song by Aterciopelados is truly the Latin music for those who enjoy that style of music.

The last two tracts on the album are Spanish versions of Do You Only Wanna Dance and Satellite. I personally don't like these versions compared to the originals, though they work well to bring for different styles of music to listen to. The overall disc is one that I enjoy listening to while driving down the open road. With that I rate this album four stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy the CD with the $$ you save by not seeing the movie..., February 26, 2004
By A Customer
Hi - I haven't heard the CD, but have seen the movie. It is really cheesy and relies too much on the dancing, not a strong story. But I have to say, I was really jumping in my seat because of the soundtrack and had to go out dancing afterwards, so buy this CD instead of a movie ticket (or wait for video!)
