Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Two years have passed since Peter Parker first hit the streets of New York City as the conflicted crime-fighter Spider-Man. Now he finds himself battling his most diabolical villain yet, the mechanized, multi-tentacled Doc Ock. The nefarious Doc Ock was once Dr. Otto Octavius, a brilliant nuclear physicist. But a freak accident transformed him from a timid researcher to a criminally insane megalomaniac who blames Spider-Man for his horrible transformation. Now the scientist Peter once idolized for his remarkable intellect has marked our web-slinger for death.

Experience total freedom as you soar through the concrete canyons of a living, breathing Manhattan, complete with familiar landmarks and bustling, traffic-clogged streets. Combat petty thugs and aid NYC citizens in challenging side-quests, or pursue the lunatic Doc Ock and other classic Spider-Man rivals. The decision is yours.

Take Manhattan for a spin in Spider-Man 2.

Product Description

Spider-Man 2: The Movie turns the city of New York into your playground -- explore a vast metropolis as you build a legend! It's been two years since the costumed crime-fighter Spider-Man hit the streets. Things have not been good to Peter Parker, and he decides to throw in the towel -- until a strange super-powered man called "Doctor Octopus" marks the hero for death. Take the larger-than-life adventure from the silver screen and onto the computer screen.

3.0 out of 5 stars The good and the bad about "Spider-Man 2", July 5, 2004
By "secret__world" (Essex County, NJ USA) - See all my reviews
I'll start with the "bad" - this game is short. Brutally short. It felt like it took less than four hours to finish, which is a disapointment considering that I've heard the console version is bigger and longer.

The other strike against it is, well, it's not the console version. Apparently, console gamers got the more immersive game that had been advertised. While you can go in multile directions in "Spider-Man 2", you cannot zip off to, say, the Statue of Liberty, mostly because of the game's linear nature.

The "good" about this game is more personal one. As a handicapped gamer, some games can be almost impossible to play with one hand (like the first Spider-Man for the PC). The keyboard/mouse combo made this game accessible to anyone who plays single-handed, and it was refreshing to be able to play without frustration. So there WAS a bit of fun to be had. (Thank you Activision)

This game had potential, and the fact that it's so different than the better console version really has me scratching my head. Why not take advantage of a PC's abilities?

1.0 out of 5 stars This is where the term "false advertising" came from, June 30, 2004
By G3K (Tempe, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
After witnessing the deluge of advertising (including the "Making the Game" special on MTV) and seemingly universal critical praise for the console version of the game, I purchased the PC version expecting to play the same thing.

It's not.

The graphics are horrible (the Unreal engine is capable of ten times more; yet half the cutscenes are prerendered anyway by what seems to be an old, half-broken Nintendo 64), the same five enemy characters are re-used ad nauseam (and use the same taunt dialogue again and again), and the controls are non-standard and generally annoyingly difficult to use.

Most of all, the free-roaming environments and non-linear gaming so touted in the promotional materials ARE NOT PART OF THIS GAME. Even though the structure of the PC version seems designed for a console ("save points" instead of save-anywhere design; only one game can be saved at a time) it lacks any of the special features advertised for the console versions.

The Unreal engine can blow away even the Xbox's best efforts, and it's a shame that its power wasn't harnessed. The biggest shame, however, is that Activision has duped gamers into purchasing a totally linear, almost thoroughly unenjoyable product that is wholly different from the one that has been advertised excessively in the past weeks. I feel disappointed and cheated, and I hope I can get my money back. :-P

1.0 out of 5 stars THIS GAME F@#*ING SUCKS, September 12, 2005
A Kid's Review
Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
The only reason I gave this one star is because the web site made me! I got spiderman2 for pc for my birthday last year and almost smashed the computer because I was so pissed! Everything is controlled by the mouse. The colors look like something from telletubbies and the graphics just suck. There is no "free roam" only "go this way because we are to f@$&ing lazy to make this game for anyone but 3-year-olds roam." If you bought this game take it back. If you are about to DON'T!!!!!! SAVE YOURSELF THE HORRIBLE PAIN THIS GAME CAUSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
