5.0 out of 5 stars Really Good, Just a Different Style., November 14, 2004
By R. Cecere "B Cecere" (Lynnfield, MA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This album is really good, but its not your typical Yellowcard. If you are getting this, looking for something like Ocean Avenue, your not getting it. This album has Yellowcard's old singer, Ben Dobson who has a completly different sound than Ryan Key. He sounds a little bit like Fat Mike from NoFX. So its not really as pop-punk as there other CDs, but it is good. Try it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where We Stand, April 29, 2004
By Kimi (Jacksonville, FL) - See all my reviews
I must say that this is a totally different sound than the current Yellowcard but it's for a good reason. This was when the band consisted of Ben Dobson on vocals, Todd Clary on vocals and guitar, Ben Harper on guitar, Sean Mackin(goes by Wellman on this album) on violin, LP Parsons III on drums, and Warren Cooke on bass. For many of you, 3 of those names are foreign. When Ben D. and Todd left the band, Ryan joined and that was the band until Warren left after making the Underdog EP. But back to the main purpose of this. This album is alot different from what you maybe be used to hearing from Yellowcard. The music is harder. It's not as upbeat as their albums once Ryan joined the band in 2000. But for it's category or being a hard rock kind of album, it's a great album. I'd recommend for you to get it. It is also a great album to have because it shows a measurement of how far they have came since 1998. They were amazing then, and even more amazing now.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Original Yellowcard, April 13, 2006
By E. Ball (Sacramento) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
To understand this album, you have to understand that this is not the "Ocean Avenue" Yellowcard. Though they may share many of the same members and the same name, the band you will hear on this album is miles away from the Yellowcard known to people by Ocean Avenue.

This was originally released several years before "One For the Kids," the modern Yellowcard's "debut," if you will. When this was released, Yellowcard was a very talented punk rock band. Too many reviews either say this is a bad album, or the newer ones are. It is simply important to realize that you are not truly talking about the same band. I personally prefer the way they are on this album, but I also liked One For the Kids for what it was (I wasn't a big fan of Ocean Avenue, but that's just how it goes sometimes). So please understand: on this album, you will hear Yellowcard as they were in the late 90s: one of the best punk rock bands around. They had a lot of heart, a lot of energy, and very good lyrics. But as I've seen suggested, I would also suggest checking out the samples on this page to be sure this is really the type of music you're looking for.

If you are a fan of Yellowcard's more recent releases, this may not be for you. On the other hand, whether or not you like their newer music, if you like bands like The Vandals, Screeching Weasel, The Lookouts, the Descendents, or other fast-paced punk, you may want to check this one out.
