Editorial Reviews

About the Artist
Whether performing live or on recordings with Acoustic Alchemy; or as a session player for Bryan Ferry, Van Morrison, Dave Stewart and many more, you’ve probably heard the talented and versatile Terry Disley on the keyboards.

With fellow Brits Acoustic Alchemy he co-wrote 2 compositions for the Grammy Award nominated Back on the Case album – "Fire of the Heart" and "Clear Air for Miles." He wrote "The Beautiful Game" and "Tete a Tete" for the group’s Beautiful Game album and toured with them for six years (92-98), including three shows at the Catalina Island Jazz Festival. He appeared with the band on many TV shows and seven albums.

In the jazz arena Disley has appeared many times at London’s prestigious Ronnie Scott’s Club alongside piano greats including McCoy Tyner, Cedar Walton and Monty Alexander – playing straight ahead jazz piano with his own group. He performed with trumpet legend Eddie Henderson many times in the UK and USA.

Rock and roll is also in his repertoire and includes stadium shows with vocalist Roger Daltry of the Who and Pink Floyd guitarist Dave Gilmour. His largest audience was with Madness at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark – 85,000 people. He collaborated with pop star Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) on a wide range of projects throughout the 90’s, including live dates with Bootsy Collins and Candy Dulfer. He was Dave’s Musical Director and recorded keyboards on more than 20 albums and 4 major motion picture soundtracks.

In consistant demand as a session player, Disley has recorded with Bryan Ferry, Sir Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Sir Mick Jagger, Brian Wilson & Wilson Phillips, Van Morrison, Shakespeare’s Sister, Texas, Dee-Dee Bridgewater, Tom Jones, Alicia’s Attic, Jon Bon Jovi and many others.

He is also featured alongside Yellowjackets members Will Kennedy and Marc Russo on J Thompson’s 2003 Smooth Jazz debut album – Romantic Night.

In 1997 Disley moved to San Francisco and began composing, performing and recording his own projects, including his own jazz trio Three Thinking (2000-2002). In September 2003 he co-wrote music for the San Francisco Oracle World Convention and performed the piece for 15,000 people with a laser light show.

Most recently Terry played keyboards with a new group fronted by bass legend Stu Hamm of Joe Satriani fame at the NAMM show in Los Angeles (January 2004).

EXPERIENCE is Terry Disley’s debut recording. The first single, "Side to Side" was entered in a competition on KKSF Radio 103.7 – the Bay Area’s Smooth Jazz station. The track received the most votes by a long way. 17,045 people voted for "Side to Side".

4.0 out of 5 stars A great CD for an evening in, September 4, 2005

I heard Terry Disley on a trip to San Francisco in April. I liked his music so much that I bought the CD. I have not been disappointed. It is easy listening, perfect over dinner with a glass of wine. Shame the CD is not available from Amazon in UK, especially as Terry is English.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Saw Him Live....WOW!, June 1, 2004
By Mandu the Cat (Incline Village, NV USA) - See all my reviews
Just saw Terry live at the Jazztrax event in Lake Tahoe and I have to tell you that I bought the CD at the event (a rarity). I listened to it all evening and into the next day and it is a terrific album. I am very much looking forward to the next album. All jazz lovers should also check out jazztrax.com for future releases - a terrific resource. Keep up the great tunes Terry!

Well thought out tunes, not your usual boring, white-bread Smooth Jazz album.
