5.0 out of 5 stars "Two" Good To Be True, June 9, 2004
By Stephanie (New Jersey United States) - See all my reviews
Wow. Amazing. I've been a fan of the group since I heard Alex Band (the lead vocalist) sing the song "Why Don't You and I". I immediately went and bought "Camino Palmero" (CP). CP was an awesome album and for this one I was expecting something similar. They are incomparable. Both are amazing albums, but they are totally different.
Two has a harder edge too it and definately shows the guys maturity. They've grown into men, and it shows.

1. One by One - (5/5) - Once again they started the CD off with a bang. Sounds like a hard rock song, and it's one of my favorites. It has a beautiful message and Alex's voice shows so much emotion. Really an awesome song. The lyrics are excellent, the vocals excellent, and the music great.

2. Our Lives - (4/5) - Basically the equivalent of "Wherever You Will Go" from their previous album. It is a song about how you must take the time and days you have now and live them to their fullest. Great graduation song.

3. Things Will Go My Way - (5/5) - Another flawless song. Shows depth and emotion that is a rarity in music today.

4. Chasing the Sun - (3/5) - A fun love song. A great song on its own, but when compared to how wonderful the rest of the album is, it isn't one of my favorites.

5. Believing - (5/5) - A wonderful inspirational song. Basically says to never stop believing in yourself because you have the power to do anything.

6. Anything - (4/5) - A superb love anthem. They sing about being completely in love that you would do anything to make the other person happy.

7. If Only - (5/5) - Another one of my favorites. It has a great beat and Alex's vocals are haunting. It talks about how he wishes true love could find everyong.

8. Somebody Out There - (10/5) - My personal favorite because it holds special meaning for me. This is one of the harder songs and is about a girl who wonders if there is a God. It is not a preachy song but just asks "If there is someone out there, to make things wrong, and to make things right". This song captures my feeligns on religion perfectly. Excellent song.

9. Surrender (5/5) - A fun song, but very sexual. Alex sings about the love of his life and what they share together. It once again makes you feel what others feel when they are in love.

10. Dreaming in Red - (4/5) - A fun song. Great beats.

11. Your Hope - (5/5) - This took a few listens to get used to. It kinda has a matrix feel to it, but the meaning is awesome. Basically it says to believe in yourself and never give up hope.

Overall, these songs have great lyrics and beats and show the boy's maturity. I think it is just as good as their first album, if not better. The thing that makes them stand out is the emotion. Without listening to the lyrics you can feel them through Alex's voice. It's awesome and I've never seen it in another band before. Bravo, boys. This is rare talent. Buy the album, you should enjoy it.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3-1/2 stars -- Title?, June 13, 2005
When the Calling first released "Wherever You Will Go", it took a few months before the mainstream hooked on to it, and then eventually it became so popular that it stayed in the top 40 for over a full year. But subsequent singles weren't up to par, and then it seemed like the band dropped off the face of the Earth (unless you count Alex Band's substitution for Chad Kroeger in Santana's "Why Don't You & I"). But now the band came back with Two, which is titled as such because of one of the following reasons: 1) it's the band's second album, 2) the band has been cut down to only two members, or 3) only two people own this album.

All jokes aside, I looked at the other reviews on here, and the reviewers are completely split down the middle; people either say the album is terrible or remarkable. So I guess it looks like I'm playing neutral when I say that the album is just okay. The album starts out GREAT, though, with tracks like "One By One" and the leadoff single, "Our Lives". And the romantic "Chasing the Sun" may look a little corny on paper, but to hear it is to enjoy it.

It's too bad that that formula doesn't work as well with the other love-oriented songs. "If Only" is okay, but "Anything" could stand a rewrite; and sorry, but "Surrender" is cheesier than a Savage Garden song. And there's also the obligatory end-of-album keep-your-head-up song, "Your Hope", that really doesn't come off more than tolerable.

While the Calling didn't really break any new ground with this record, it's still an above-average album, so if you like light rock, feel free to give it a spin.

5.0 out of 5 stars A CD You Don't Want to Pass By!, June 9, 2004
By Deborah Hagerman (Binghamton, NY United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The new Cd from The Calling does not disappoint die hard fans and will draw in many new fans. The boys have grown up but have not lost their sincerity or raw musical talent. This CD is a must have for anyone who appreciates great music, beautiful vocals and meaningful lyrics.

The best songs on the CD are "Anything", "Things Will Go My Way" and "Somebody Out There". All the songs have their own unique style and the lyrics are deeply woven. This is one of those rare CDs that you cannot skip over any tracks. You won't tire of this CD anytime soon. Great Job ~ The Calling!
