This is my first review, but I felt that this needed to be done... I looked all over the net' and couldn't find much on these before I bought them, so I at least hope to help somebody out here. These puppies look great, and don't sound too bad either for the money. Is there better out there? Sure. In this price range for a complete 6.1 system? Probably not. Just for the record, I'm driving this with the Yamaha 5660 6.1 reciever. The 6 main speakers are all identical. They have, and I can't stress this enough, NO BASS. None... zero... zip... which with the slimline design is to be expected. Not much cabinet dept, and virtually no way to port these out. What they lack in bass, they do make up for in unbelievably clear mids and highs. The lack of bass does mean that the sub has a lot of work to do, and this one does not dissapoint. It surprised me how accurate it is, and in a small to medium room, has plenty of power. Not too thumpy, but very clean and precise. Now, my system is in a fairly large room, so I do plan to add a second sub to this at some point. That may just be overkill... The YST set up does it's job very well. I'm just that picky. The stands on the front L/R speakers put everything at ear level, and the wall mountable aspect of all the speakers sure came in handy. Nice to hear that rear center channel kick in while watching Star Wars, or just tossing in a Foo Fighters live DVD. So far, they have performed better than I expected for the money on both music and movies. Hope this has helped somebody! Thanks for reading...

After much research I decided to buy these speakers because they were the best sound and value for the price. I haved worked with Yamaha products in the area of professional sound for some time and have always been impressed with the quality and features they offer for the price. So when it came to a home system I had to test out their home audio equipment. I was impressed the moment I heard the speakers. I am running them off the Yamaha rx v650 receiver, which creates an impressive sound field in the average sized living room. If I wanted to spend a larger amount of money I would have bought professional speakers from Tannoy. However, for the price these Yamaha speakers are difficult to beat. A word of advice: these speakers are large, but slim and good looking. Don't try to hide them, make them a part of your decor. They have a large variety of mounting options (including two floor stands that come with the speakers). They easily mount to a wall (which I don't recommend doing for any speaker, they sound better away from walls), but they also mount easily to any standard speaker mount. I am using stand for all but two which I have suspended from the ceiling using ceiling "omnimounts." They work great! These speakers also come with an impressive 5 year warranty, which is diffucult to find anywhere else.

I agree with "Kman" and "Zombiecrow's" descriptions. I also am driving them with the Yamaha 5690 receiver. One thing I do recommend is that you buy heavier wire. The included wire is only #24 and doesn't look like it will do the job adequately. You can get 100 feet of #16 wire for about $20. Unless you have a large room, that should be enough.

I have not noticed a problem with the bass; perhaps the heavier wire did the trick. To demonstrate the system for friends, I put on the DVD "Gettysburg" and play the final bombardment just before Pickett's charge. Sounds like you are right in the middle of the Confederate cannons.

I adjusted the subwoofer with the manual adjustment on the back to the bass fiddle in a jazz concert DVD. That gave just enough bass. I adjusted the other speakers first using the auto setup with the included microphone. It did an OK job, but I found adjusting them individually with the manual feature made them closer to my personal preference.
