About the Artist

Layla Angulo (Saxophone) Born in Louisiana, raised between Boston, Los Angeles, and Seattle, Layla began playing the piano at age five, the sax at ten, and was performing in jazz clubs in Boston at fourteen. Layla currently plays with the Layla Angulo Latin Jazz Band. Thione Diop (Djembe) Senegalese born drummer, Thione Diop is now based in Seattle, Washington where he teaches djembe and sabar drumming, sabar dance, and performs frequently. Currently Thione is the lead drummer for his group Yeke Yeke. Alex Guilbert (Keyboards), Since his graduation from the University of Washington School of Music in 1994, Alex has embarked on a highly diverse career as a pianist, composer, and teacher. He has been an established member of Seattle's jazz community for years. Taryn Webber (Cello & Vocals), Taryn loves to rock! Since moving to Seattle from the East Coast in 1997 she has played cello, electric bass, and sang harmony with such musical groups as Swan Vestas, Going South, Graig Markel, and most recently, The Figure of Eight. Cari Carnahan (Vocals), Cari is singing with the Seattle Pacific University band Unlimited this year. Walter Torres (Guitar), Walter was born and raised in Lima, Peru. Walter recently composed, arranged and performed most of the songs on the Julio Ramirez album, and is involved in regular projects with Arturo Rodriguez. Walter is currently the lead percussionist for the Layla Angulo Latin Jazz Band. Pierre Crutchfield (Clarinet), An artist, writer, and producer of both music and film, Pierre utilizes turntables, woodwinds, and keyboards in much of his work. Philip Seward (Percussion), Philip has played for over 20 years in various forms of music: jazz, R&B, rock, disco, new wave, techno, new age, funk, reggae, ska, country, blues, and classical. Justin Verre (Berimbau), Justin plays the berimbau, an instrument used in the Brazilian foot fighting art of capoeira. Pat Laughlin (Trumpet) Pat began playing his trumpet in 5th grade back in Ohio and has been playing for over 20 years.

Fitness Rhythms is original percussion-driven music intertwined with various instruments, vocals, and timely placed verbal cues designed to guide you through your workout. Throughout your exercise attention is brought towards positive and constructive thinking which assist you in getting a great workout, promoting creative thought, and relieving stress. Six challenges are placed throughout the three levels for conditioned exercisers who would like to push themselves. The music starts out gradually with a single pace beat and slowly becomes more intense and complex (as exercise should) as it slowly builds throughout each level. (...)I love this CD! The percussion driven music is so good you want to listen just for that. Combined with Eric Wilson's warm, rich voice giving brief and timely instructions to guide your fitness workout, this is a great way to move to the music. You choose the method (aerobic floor exercise, walking, running, etc.) and this CD provides a background of mesmerizing rhythms, African beats, jazz, and much more. This is the CD to buy!

In early 2004, another drummer friend and I were at Fremont Drum & Dance waiting for Eric Wilson's class to end. We asked Eric where he got the hot music that he was playing for the class. It turns out we were listening to an early version of this CD. These are infectious, driving grooves - guaranteed to get you moving whether you are a fitness buff or a couch potato.

This has excellent rhythm and coaching here and there. The que's are helpful when warm ups are ending and levels are going up...as well as challenges. Few parts are on the "cheesy" side but over all and excellent workout. Pace is great for pushing to work harder (I used this along with an elliptical trainer). Very well done, I wish he had other CD's.
