As an average amateur musician I've used several music composition programs over the years, and Sibelius 5 is by far my favorite. It's an amazing combination of professional power and user friendliness. Even the Sibelius manual is not only thick and comprehensive but actually fun to read and learn from.

Sibelius is the perfect example of technical empowerment, i.e., freeing individuals to concentrate more on expressing their creativity rather than having too much energy diverted to coping with a program.
