Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Ridata DVD+RW media is known for excellent performance and stable, reliable data writing. This spindle features 25 DVD+RW rewriteable discs that are compatible with 4x speed recordings. Designed for personal or professional use, Ridata's DVD+RW discs utilize a high-performance phase change material which is ideal for mass storage and long archival life. Each disc holds up to 4.7 GB of data--which can store up to 120 minutes of high-quality video, or your collection of high-resolution photos or digital audio files.

What is DVD+R/RW?
DVD+R/RW is an erasable format based on CD-RW technology that became available in late 2001. It is supported by Philips, Sony, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Ricoh, Yamaha, and others, though it is not supported by the DVD Forum. DVD+RW drives read DVD-ROMs and CDs, and usually read DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs, but do not read or write DVD-RAM discs. DVD+RW drives also write CD-Rs and CD-RWs. The DVD+RW format uses phase-change media with a high-frequency wobbled groove that allows it to eliminate linking sectors. This, plus the option of no defect management, allows DVD+RW discs to be written in a way that is compatible with many existing DVD readers. DVD+R/RW discs hold 4.7 gigabytes (GB) per side and are readable in many existing DVD-Video players and DVD-ROM drives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Detailed info on latest discs from Amazon, July 18, 2004
By BizTraveler (CT, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ridata DVD+RW 4x 25-pack Spindle (Electronics)
(Please read entire review)
Some reviews posted here are from people who did not purchase this item from Amazon. The product lot number is totally different than the current stock of Amazon. The product lot that Amazon was/(is?) selling had/(has?) a large number of defective discs. People who bought their discs retail, and gave a review of good quality, isn't a good indicator of the discs you will get. Based upon the people who purchased their discs from Amazon and gave reviews, it seemed/(seems?) likely you will get a defective spindle. This may not be the case anymore.

(PLEASE READ ON)

I purchased a spindle in May 2004, and it contained about 70% defective DVDs. I returned it to Amazon in July as a defective product. They took the product back, even though it was past 30 days, and they paid for return shipping. (You won't get that great customer service at a retail store).

Amazon told me there would be a slight delay on my replacement discs because they were changing their supplier. I received my replacement discs about 10 days later. After inspecting the discs, I found no visible physical defects. I've burned about 10 discs and have had no failures. It would appear that the new supplier has corrected the defective product problems.

In conclusion, I would recommend this product from Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality at a great price!, December 6, 2004

I've burned these on an NEC ND-1100A at 2x and on an NEC ND-3500A at 4x and all 25 in my package have worked flawlessly. The price isn't all that much more than quality +R discs, so I'm back for more! For reference, the discs I bought at the end of October have the media code RICOHJPN-W11.
