If you're about to buy this product. I'm about to, do you the biggest favor ever. I'm so glad you're reading this. What you need to do is buy the Adobe video collection, Professional Edition. Let me tell you why!

With the Adobe video collection Professional Edition. You get Adobe aftereffects professional 6.5 Adobe Premier Pro 1.5 Adobe encore DVD 1.5 Adobe audition 1.5 and Adobe Photoshop CS all for only $400 more. That is crazy go nuts!!!

Adobe's After Effects 6.5 (AE6.5) is even better than it's predecessor (AE 5)! Fortunately for designers like me who already use Photoshop and Illustrator, Adobe has done it again and made the integration between these programs even tighter. This closer integration means less time tweaking images either before or after you import them into AE6.5. The time saved here can be better put to use creatively!

A new feature of the interface itself is the ability to brighten AE6.5 workspace with new preferences. This is helpful due to the extreme variance between different types of monitors and monitor producers.

Additional improvements include new Selection methods. As in most graphics and video programs, the ability to selection exactly what you want is King. With AE6.5, users can now gain more control over their layers and keyframes with these new Selection methods. It saves time without having to select, re-select and turn off or move layers to get at what you need to select.

Also, the new Wheel Mouse support is great too. Move around with ease!

AE6.5 also adds impressive text and vector paint tools, redesigned and simplified motion tracking, enhanced performance and accessibility. With AE6 you can now edit text directly in the Comp window and Timeline using those tools users are familiar with in Photoshop and Illustrator. Working with the animators and selectors you can easily adjust various properties and behaviors, such as position, tracking, rotation, skew, hue, opacity, and so on. Although AE6.5 is a complex video-editing program, the new advances mean that it takes only a few steps to create some spectacular text effects.

The masking features have been improved and now include the creation of automatic masks from alpha channels, better use of keylighting with semitransparent objects and the special Roto-Bezier masking tools.

Even better! The Motion tracking tools are even more robust! You can even track multiple points on layers and copy this info to other layers. You can now apply only the horizontal or the vertical coordinates of tracked motion to a target. This is a help in that you can do one or the other, not having to have them stuck together. The controls are more flexible and the performance has definitely been taken to the next level.

Another great new feature is the Effects addition "Liquify". Many people have used Liquify in Photoshop, but with AE6.5 it is animated. This adds a dramatic dimension to your motion graphics.

The color correction has been improved. Adobe has brought over the new Adjust effect from Premiere Pro 1.5 into After Effects. You can now correct or adjust the color, contract, shadows and tones of your footage. Auto Color, Auto Contrast, Auto Levels and other effects have also come from Premiere Pro 1.5.

Borrowing from similar tools in Photoshop CS2, AE6.5 now has a new Clone Stamp tool, Eraser tool and a Paint palette. This is another way Adobe is establishing consistency between their products. Interface consistency allows users to go from one of Adobe's programs to another, and still be basically familiar with what the tools do.

As usual, Adobe has done their best to make AE6.5 become more friendly to allow users to streamline their workflow when authoring or producing in multiple Adobe applications. Users can move layers and clips with ease between AE6.5 and Premiere. The new Edit Original command allows you to select an item in AE6.5, then with a click, immediately open it's respective tool such as Audition 1.5, Premiere Pro 1.5, Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2 and Encore DVD.

For me, probably the best thing Adobe did in AE6.5 is to improve the overall performance of rendering and views. I use a 2.0Ghz Athlon 64 with 1GB of RAM. Sometimes in the past, rendering and just getting a preview was almost painful due to the amount of RAM that was being consumed. Now, with the per-item rendering and per-layer image caching, my frame views and compositions are displayed faster. I can also control the quality of the previews in the new Previews preferences panel. By reducing the quality of the preview, AE6.5 renders and displays it faster.

Amateur and professional AE6.5 users alike with greatly benefit from the new features and performance of this industry-standard video editing and effect product.

The nice thing about this program is the ease with which self-teaching comes, since it's made by the same programmers who make all of Adobe's other graphics suite programs. I love it.
