Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Uniden TRU8860-2 cordless phone system offers an attractive bundle of features, with room to grow. With 5.8 GHz digital signal transmission for increased call clarity and security, it also stores up to 100 calls in its caller ID log, includes handset speakerphone and conferencing capabilities, and can be expanded to 10 handsets (model TCX800).

The caller ID log shares space with a programmable memory and is accessed via the handset's three-line backlit LCD. It also features a thoughtful alphabetical search option (just like a cell phone), so you don't have to scroll from A-Z, and you can transfer stored numbers from one handset to another.

Additional features include call transfer between handsets, distinctive ring tones, household intercom, and even remote room monitoring (baby monitor). The TRU8860-2 requires just one phone jack, no matter how many handsets you add. Simply plug the base unit into a phone jack, and the additional handsets will configure themselves to "talk" directly with the base unit.

What's in the Box
TRU8860-2 (base unit and handset plus additional handset and charging cradle), one phone line cord, two AC power adapters, two NiMH battery packs and covers, two belt clips, user guide, warranty information

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good phone., April 7, 2005
By John Truslow (Atlanta, Georgia, United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Like most people, I have purchased an unreasonable number of sub-$50 phones over the last few years, and universally, they have turned out to be crap. I finally took the financial plunge and purchased the Uniden TRU8860-2 (which is actually two handsets) and have been very, very pleased. It is extremely easy to use, is a real digital phone (DSS), has a great range, is loaded with features (that are easy to access), does not conflict with my wireless network, has a good battery life and acceptable sound. I have some slight criticisms that should not discourage you from your purchase: I don't find the sound quality to be as clear as I would hope (this has a very faint hiss), but there is no denying that it is still FAR better than all other cordless models I've purchased. Also, I find the handsets a bit small for my taste (others will disagree, to be sure), but again, a small price to pay for finally getting a cordless phone that does everything it should do - every time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally, an excellent cordless phone, November 26, 2004
I learned my lesson--don't buy a cheap telephone. This one, at just over $100 for 2 handsets, is a true winner. Voice quality is clear, even when using the speaker phone feature. The display is light and readable. The 5.8Ghz frequency ensures no interference with wireless computer networks (using 802.11b,g).

The only drawbacks, and they are very minor, include:

- Only 3 "dialed" numbers get stored, as opposed to almost 100 incoming numbers (via Caller ID).
- A more efficient arrangement of some of the buttons would make it easier to activate the speaker phone and the phonebook of stored numbers.

This sturdy phone is worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a 5.8 GHz phone that has quality!, April 22, 2005
I was looking for a handset that would not interfere with 2.4Ghz wireless that has taken over my neighborhood and caused many reception problems. Saw the Motorola 5.8Ghz and thought I'd give it a try after trying out a Panasonic 5.8Ghz which sounded like I was talking through a tin can. Unfortunately Motorola was just a bit better on sound quality, but not much. The last part of every word gets cut off. I couldn't go far from the base without loosing signal and the volume was low to medium. Battery life was marginal at best. I am slightly hard of hearing, (but have perfect pitch) so having a little more juice in this department would be good. The features are okay but, layout and interface are primitive compared to other phones in this price range. I guess the 3rd time is the charm because I ended up finding the 5.8GHz Uniden Tru 8860-2 finally with normal human voice quality and volume when needed. The layout and functionality for the features are intuitive and easy where the phone is not drawing attention to itself because of it's quirkieness and low quality (Motorola and Panasonic.) Take it from me, if you are looking for a 5.8 Ghz phone, get the Uniden
