Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Is there a more perfect musical metaphor for Nip/Tuck's themes of deeper-than-skin neuroses and narcissistic surgical reinvention than the chic chimera of a club remix? Josh Gabriel and Dave Dresden, the dub savants behind contemporary club successes that include Andain's "Beautiful Things", Motorcycle's "As the Rush Comes" and Sarah McLachlan's "Fallen," conjur up a nigh-seamless soundscape of haunting textures and percolating beats here, forcefully pushing the envelope of what a smart song-score can be in the bargain. Their rhythmic reinvention of The Engine Room's theme for the show, "A Perfect Lie," sets the cynical, haunting tone, with Gabriel and Dresden employing a sensibility that's both more mature and austere than their typical club work. G&D infuse that consistently entrancing sensibility to material as diverse as the cool-jazz of "Angels" by Wax Poetic/Norah Jones, Daniel Ash's stripped-down reinvention of the standard "Fever" and the retro-disco of Client's "Price of Love." If it's a triumph of style over substance, it's one that musically underscores the show's similar themes with grace and ever-detached elegance. --Jerry McCulley

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect soundtrack for a perfect show., April 11, 2005
By David Khaindrava (Austell, GA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As good as this show is, I just had to express my opinion about the quality of this soundtrack. It is absolutely flawless. It is hip, sexy and completely captures the mood of the show. From a brilliant remix of a title song to new versions of old favorites this is a must have CD for everyone, even if you don't watch the show. One song that I HAVE to single out (which was the reason I bought the CD to begin with) is "So Damn Beautiful" by Poloroid. I'm not sure how to describe just how good this song is. I have been listening to this CD non stop since I got it 2 weeks ago. Excellent CD. If you like the show, you'll love the soundtrack, if you've never seen the show you'll love the soundtrack and want to see the show itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark and moody like the television series, June 19, 2004
"Nip/Tuck" is probably one of the few original tv series I like on basic cable at the moment. I have always loved actor Julian McMahan since his days on "Profiler" and later "Charmed" as the love-stricken demonic Cole/Balthazar. I was thrilled to see that there was a soundtrack from the show. I especially wanted to buy it when I saw that Delerium vocalist Kirsty Hawkshaw has a track on the cd called "Just Be Me". I found a promo copy of the soundtrack to "Nip/Tuck" today and immediately bought it. The soundtrack is excellent. It is mixed by the duo Gabriel & Dresden so you gotta know that the soundtrack is going to have that laid back, chillout sound. The cd kicks off with the excellent theme song by The Engine Room. If there is one song on this cd that you truly have to hear is "Falling" by Chris Coco (who did mixed the "Chilling at the Playboy Mansion" discs). The melody sends chills down my spine. I think it is Grieg's "Morning" that Chris Coco lifts from because the melody is simply lovely and certainly stirs the soul. Of course I love "Just Be Me" the Kirsty Hawkshaw track. There isn't any song that Kirsty could do that I wouldn't like. She has never disappointed me. Daniel Ash's interpretation of "Fever" was a pleasant surprise. Normally I like hearing other women sing the sultry jazz track but Daniel does a great job at reinventing the song. If you like chillout music and the show "Nip/Tuck", this soundtrack is ideal for you. I wasn't disappointed in it.

4.0 out of 5 stars 80s revisited with a new millenium twist, September 17, 2004
This album is just as unique in the music industry as the show Nip/Tuck is within the landscape of today's television. The songs are far off the beaten path as it gets yet their vibe is familiar. The show is reminiscent of the Miami Vice era of televison and this soundtrack could be an equal to Miami Vice's soundtrack which featured Phil Collins' greatest hit, In the Air of the Night.
A minus for me is that after track 4 the songs begin to sound the same. There is not mood changes. Not a couple of fast tunes then a few slower songs. They are pretty much on the same tempo.
But the first 4 tracks are worth it.
The show's theme: A Perfect Lie is a great song and sets the Nip/Tuck mood instantly.
The next two songs, So Damn Beautiful and Angels, are both great songs but the second song features Norah Jones. I want to like it more because she more familiar to me than Poloroid (the first song's artist) but I just love So Damn Beautiful. So sorry Norah but Poloroid out rocks you on this track.
Fever is an all time favorite song of mine and I have loved every renditiion of it I have heard (ie Madonna has one and a jazz version that I believe is the original) and this is no different. Daniel Ash has Nip/Tuck'd this song just right. And it is used quite often on the show.
If you are a fan of Nip/Tuck the series, than the soundtrack is a great buy too.
