Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

The Rock is definitely Walking Tall in this straightforward remake of the popular 1973 revenge flick based on the real-life exploits of Sheriff Buford Pusser. Only the basic premise of the original film remains, but it's well-suited to the Rock's rising-star agenda, and it's a savvy, albeit uninspired follow-up to his previous hit, The Rundown. With typical beefcake bravado, Chris Vaughan (the Rock) arrives home in rural Kitsap County, Washington (filmed in budget-friendly Canada, of course) to find his hometown overtaken by childhood friend-turned-sleazebag casino owner and drug-dealer Jay Hamilton (played with steely-eyed malevolence by Neal McDonough), whose squad of goons includes the local sheriff. The cards are instantly and simplistically stacked against our hero, but no matter: he's soon kickin' ass and takin' names as the new sheriff, and from that point director Kevin Bray (All About the Benjamins) goes strictly by-the-numbers, limiting this punchy programmer to a brisk 85 minutes, with comic relief (courtesy of costar Johnny Knoxville) and an obligatory love-interest (Ashley Scott, in obligatory skimpy attire) tossed in for good measure. It's a cracker movie for a cracker audience, and on those terms it handily expedites the Rock's ascension to the action-movie throne. --Jeff Shannon

Product Description

When it comes to laying down the law with a vengeance, one man can make a difference. Action superstar The Rock (The Rundown, The Scorpion King) takes no prisoners as he fights for justice andcrushes corruption in this hard-hitting adventure that's "endlessly enjoyable and a lot of fun" (FOX-TV)! Johnny Knoxville (Jackass: The Movie) co-stars in this "bone-cracking, adrenaline-pumping" (Arizona Daily Star) ride inspired by the true story of a man who decided to take a standand take back his town.

5.0 out of 5 stars You're all fired, April 1, 2008

Walking Tall DVD

Walking Tall is a remake of [[ASIN:B000VDDDWI Walking Tall]. This time the Rock stars as an Army Officer who has come home to find his hometown full of vice and corruption. In this movie he finds a 4X4 versus an axe handle to use as a "helper". I think I'd prefer the axe handle. Highly recommended for fans of the Rock and for people who think Wrestling is real, but the moon landing was fake.

Gunner April, 2008

3.0 out of 5 stars So full of action that it leaves out a few things., November 29, 2004
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed this film... it was just short! If you take away the credits you're only left with an hour and thirteen minute movie!

The Rock can really act, who would have thought? The only other downside beside the time is that most of the other characters are so under developed. You can't quite feel happy or feel sorry for them because you just don't know them. Knoxville was great also... he's just a funny guy in my opinion.

The plot is great, as well as the action sequences. At the end of the movie, you are really just ready for the Rock to rip everyone apart that has tried to hurt him and his family and friends; those scars he gets spark a few nerves as well. I would say definitely go rent this movie, just rent one or two more while your at; the Rundown is another good film w/ the Rock also; try that if you haven't already.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!!, November 27, 2004
By Miranda Lutes (Nappanee, IN United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This movie is great, and full of action. I was never a fan of wrestling and knew very little about the Rock. I rented this movie last night for my boyfriend and I to watch. Since I was strictly informed not to get any chick-flicks, I figured this was the best choice. It is based on a true story about a guy named Beauford Pusser (gross name) who after comming home from the millitary notices a great deal of change in his home town. The mill he and his father once worked at is now closed and the main source of income for this small town is the casino/strip club owned by his former friend. Things turn ugly whe Chris Vaughn (The Rock) notice the casino is cheating their customers. He tries to go to the police and they are just as crooked as the casino, so the Rock takes matters into his own hands. Great movie choice for ladies wanting to please their boyfriend with a non-chickflick. But don't worry ladies even if you don't like the story line, you will still enjoy it, because the Rock is very nice to look at!! Enjoy.
