Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
It's a 50 Cent world, and we're just living in it. Lloyd Banks's solo debut is one in an upcoming series of G Unit-affiliated releases coming to a hood near you. With his understated raspy flows and gift for penning clever punch lines, Banks has long been considered the crew's nicest lyricist. He might also be the most braggadocious. On choice cut "Warrior," the narcissism begins: "I'm smooth as the Isleys, sometimes I surprise me." Then there's the self-explanatory "I’m So Fly," produced by Timbaland, and "If You So Gangsta," where he informs his fellow hood dwellers why they can't compete with the "rap Lebron." As with all G Unit productions, the beats are first-rate. Remarkable backing tracks supplied by underrated producers Hi-Tek and Baby Grand ("I Get High," "Die One Day") act as a much needed counterweight to Banks's clichéd thug-guns-girls-jewelry banter. A better reason to cop this album is to hear Banks's introspective take on the flipside of thug living. R&B-tinged ballad "Karma" demos his ability to serenade the hotties in more, um, gentlemanly fashion. When he raps "if it wasn't for 50, I probably wouldn't be around," he might be right. But the rap world's no worse off with this capable debut in our midst. --Dalton Higgins

4.0 out of 5 stars Lloyd Banks - The Hunger For More (3.5/5), August 3, 2005
By musiqstar87 "Erick" (Huntington WV USA) - See all my reviews
When I picked up Lloyd Banks solo debut 'The Hunger For More' I had pretty high expectations. The lead single had me hooked & I was assuming from hearing everyone else talk about Banks that he was the best lyrically in G-Unit. First off, the album did live up to my expectations. Also, after hearing HFM, Banks is without a doubt the best lyrically in G-Unit.

1. Ain't No Click (feat. Tony Yayo) - Not that great of an album opener. Banks does well on here & the beat is hot but Tony Yayo is straight up garbage in any situation. 2.5/5

2. Playboy - Now here's a good album opener. But since its #2 its still fire. Banks rips it with his punches & wordplay. Like the back-and-forth chanting near the end as well. 4/5

3. Warrior - This track's kind of average. Banks once again masters the art of being a punchline rapper. Catchy hook as well. 3.5/5

4. On Fire - Alot of people hate on this track for one reason or another but it is (IMO) one of the hottest club bangers G-Unit's put out. The beat is SICK & Banks rips both his verses. Only complaint is that it's only 2 verses & it should've been longer. 4.5/5

5. I Get High (feat. Snoop Dogg) - Typical, expected...any of that. Also Snoop was pretty much a given (hey its a weed song what do you expect?) & this one's pretty skippable. 3/5

6. I'm So Fly - Good choice for a 2nd single. That beat is hot & Banks pulls out some sh*t for this one ("I got the patience of a high-school teacher, and a bright future, why the f**k would i have a bomb in my sneaker?") 4.5/5

7. Work Magic - Should've been a single. One of the best tracks Banks has ever done. The beat is hot & Banks murders the first verse. Unfortunately fellow G-Unit member Young Buck is on the 2nd verse & outshines Banks on what could've been his standout moment. It's not that Buck is any better lyrically or flow-wise than Banks but he just somehow pulls out a verse that outshines Banks. 3rd verse is average. Regardless of the misteps, though, the song is great. 5/5

8. If You So Gangsta - Another typical track. Not much to say about this one. 4/5

9. Warrior, Pt. 2 (feat. Eminem, 50 Cent & Nate Dogg) - Light years ahead of the original. Em & 50's verses are nice & Banks holds his own. Beat is sick as well. Also another great chorus from the king of hooks. 5/5

10. Karma - Surprising R&B track, 3rd single as well. Was nice at first but gets really played-out after a few listens. Also the singer in the album version is NOT Avant. Not sure who he is but IMO he sounds better than Avant. 4/5

11. When the Chips Are Down (feat. Game) - At the time this was a pretty nice track. That's before The Documentary & before G-Unit VS. Game started. Game's verse is pretty much irrelevant now but its still alright. Banks is just average here as well. 4/5

12. Til The End - Best song on the album. This one has the most depth & really shows off Banks talent. Amazing track. 5/5

13. Die One Day - Average. But something good about it is the beat...that's about it, though. Lyrics are just typical. 4/5

14. South Side Story - 2nd beat on here. Another in-depth track that shows off Banks talent. Also shows off storytelling aspects as well, which is good. Nice way to close the album. 5/5

So overall, IMO, HFM was one of the best G-Unit releases in '04. Buck's album is also worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Street Philosopher tells his story............., April 17, 2006
What is the difference between game and 50 cent???? To be honest none. The story keeps on repeating it self. 50 cent's claim to fame was being shot 9 times and ruining Ja rule's carrier. Game's claim to fame has been being shot 5 times and so far damaging 50 cent's carrier. Soon someone will do the same to game (I'm betting lil-eazy) and so on. To be honest what 50 cent does in his personal live doesn't affect me or anyone in anyway. Whether he goes back to Jamaica Queens or not thats all him. But why would you???? It's like leaving hell to go to heaven would you go back to hell???? Hell no.

So I ask you just what makes a "Real Gangsta Rapper"? How can millionaire 50 cent do what drug dealer Curtis Jackson did? Hip Hop police is on him all the time. Same thing with game. He doesn't "bang". what he says in his CD is fake, because he doesn't do it anymore, if he ever did. Same goes for 50 Cent.

Game claims to be a loyal friend. So how come he leaves the group that started his carrier? He says he didn't want to make 50's beef his, isn't that what loyalty is about? How come he has left his older brother, big face???? After big face gave game the street cred he has based his carrier on. Big face tried to take back his gang after they started disagreeing on things, but to his surprise game paid them better than Face did. after all game is the 5x platinum rapper not big face.
Game is faker than 50 cent is. Everyone in compton knows game was a stripper, he used to be known by the name of Doja. Game admits it in his addition to 300 bars titled 360 bars, I quote "[...]". he clams that, it was a really hot job since he got a lot of girls, yet his girlfriend dumped him in the "change of heart show" . On top of that the dude has a tongue ring....no that doesn't make him [...], but add to that he used to dye his hair blond. And the butterfly tattoo????? K so it has a special meaning to it, but why change it?? It show he can't stick for what he believes in. He got dissed for it so much he switched it to an LA tattoo. He also claims to be the number one N.W.A. fan yet he disses the son of Eazy-E (lil Eazy-E), he said in 120 bars, and I quote "I got enough beef now lil Eazy dissing he don't even write his own rhymes so I gotta forgive him" for the people who don't know the real Eazy-E didn't write his rhymes ether. They were written by Ice Cube back in the days of N.W.A. so he is basically saying like father like son.

Ok so today's definition of a rapper is- Stripper with blond hair, tongue ring, and a butterfly tattoo.

But that's game's personal life; does that mean the guy can't make good muzik? No, the documentary was an I'll CD.

Same goes for 50 cent he may not give back to his friends but if he did then we'd all be his friends because we'd want a piece of his money too. Back to his album............

1. Ain't No Click 5/5 Hot Track

2. Playboy 5/5 sounds like something of a mixtape b/c of dj whoo kid

3. Warrior 5/5 best song in the whole cd

4. On Fire 5/5 a classic club anthem

5. I Get High 4/5 something to roll trees to.

6. I'm So Fly 5/5 cocky song but the punch lines are tuff

7. Work Magic 5/5 here is the 2nd best song banks punch lines get better

8. If You So Gangsta 5/5 probably a diss to ja rule

9. Warrior, Pt. 2 4/5 pt. 1 is better something about the beat and nate dogg's R&B hook I don't like.

10. Karma 3/5 girl song

11. When the Chips Are Down 2/5 worst song in the album

12. Til The End 3/5 banks keeps it real

13. Die One Day 3/5 an ok song

14. South Side Story 5/5 banks shows that he is an exelent story teller here.
