Absolutely Amazing!, August 5, 2004
I first picked up this CD after hearing "Look at Your Son Now"...twice. That's how catchy it was, that after only hearing it twice, I was willing to buy the CD. I actually wasn't expecting a lot, but this CD is probably THE catchiest thing I own, if not in the top 5...upon first listen, there are many songs that stand out, and I'm sure they'd all do fine as singles. Anyway, here's the track-by-track breakdown:
1. Lazy Generation- A very true track, as soon as this one kicked in I was smiling, I knew this would be a great CD. Has a good chance to be the next single, as they already have a video for it. 9.75/10
2. Screw You- Kinda gets repetitive by saying "Screw You" for quite a long time, but it's still fairly good. 9/10
3. Look at Your Son Now- Even this one's repetitive, but you'll be humming it in your head for quite some time, as it just comes together so well, and is ridiculously catchy. 9.75/10
4. Glad That I Lost You- All about losing someone in a relationship, and not caring at all. Can easily be related to, and it's got a good beat too. 9.5/10
5. I Don't Know- The shortest song on the CD at 2:10, but probably one of the best. About how a teenager doesn't know what they're planning on doing, they just want to live for the moment. 10/10
6. All the Young Dudes- Doesn't really sound like the F-Ups at first, but then the chorus kicks in and you don't really care, as it's a good tune. The solo at the end is cool, but drags a bit. 9.25/10
7. Falling Down- Another catchy one, and the longest, at 3:35; also has quite a lot of swearing, which may detract from it, depending on your point of view. 9.5/10
8. Wrong the Right- THE catchiest song on here, seems like they want to do everything backwards. Instead of doing the right things, they just want to make everything wrong...well, except this CD (ha, ha, bad joke). 10/10
9. Told You So- Has some weird computer voice going on the background, but that doesn't mean it's not good. Much better than the Hives' "Hate to Say I Told You So." 9.5/10
10. Eye for an Eye- Probably tied for "Screw You" and "No, No, No" for worst on the album, but they all have a score of 9, which is something I've never done for any other CD. So that says something about this album. 9/10
11. Crack Ho- So friggin' catchy simply because of the long "Ho"s shouted throughout the song. Very good and pretty funny, too. 10/10
12. No, No, No- While I applaud the use of the cowbell at the beginning, it's not the best on the album...but that definitely doesn't warrant it being skipped over. 9/10
Overall, you will like this CD if you like good music...even if you've never heard of them, you'll become a fan, that's how good this CD is. Keep in mind this is a CD that earns its Parental Advisory sticker, so you might want to find an edited version if you're faint of heart. One other complaint would be how short it is, but hey, I'll take quality over quantity any day.
