5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Pop Music, August 17, 2004
By BS "Tetsuhiko" (California, United States) - See all my reviews
I recently went to Tower Records to buy some singles, and I couldn't figure out what to buy. I heard of Girls Aloud, but I wasn't sure if their song was good or not. Having gone to London, I actually heard snippets of this song, "The Show" but I didn't pay much attention. So I decided to randomly buy the single for this song even though I had no idea it was really good.

Anyway, the song, "The Show" by Girls Aloud is a new single released back in June I believe (even though Amazon.com says it was released this month!) and it's a standard pop track, but it's excellent.

Album Version:: This version is the best, it starts off with some seriously good synths and proceeds to some catchy choruses and hooks. The UK music industry does really know how to create some excellent pop music. I would recommend this song to anybody who really likes energetic pop music.

Gravitas Club Mix:: Since I generally do like remixes, I figured if I didn't like the original, I would like the remix. This remix is pretty bland and doesn't go really fast. Meaning it doesn't keep the pace up with the original. It's pretty decent, but nothing that catchy to say, "Hey I like the remix version more."

Extras:: Please don't be fooled that there's an "instrumental" version because there is not. Instead, there's a karaoke video on the CD-ROM EXTRAS that can be accessed when you put it in the computer. In addition, there's the regular video with the vocals. There's also a game, but that's not really relevant to the music.

Overall::This single is excellent way to get started with Girls Aloud. I have never heard their music before, but since I bought this single, I might just check out their new album and other singles in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fab song but loses a star for no b-side, March 21, 2008
By Weather Warden <3 (Auckland, NZ) - See all my reviews
"The Show" was the comeback single for Girls Aloud's second album in 2004. They were away from the first album and had to prove they had staying power. So they came out with "The Show" - a dancey little number that made people take note of GA.

This is CD2 of the release and has a cool cover, the girls look great. Note to Amazon, the song is called "THE Show" not just "Show."

Rundown:

01. The Show [Album Version]
This was something we'd never heard from GA before. A dance track! With great instrumentals, this song just exploded into a dancey pop track. A quirk of this song is that most of it is sung by the girls as a group minus a part from Nadine and a part from Cheryl. Very catchy and very cool. A great comeback single. (5/5)

02. The Show [Gravitas Club Mix]
If you've read my other GA single reviews, you'll see I'm not such a big fan of Gravitas' remixes. I find them quite boring. But since "The Show" is quite dancey to start with, it wasn't that bad. It just enhanced on the dance feel of the original track, adding some more beats. It's not bad, definitely the best of Gravitas' remixes so far. (3/5)

03. The After Show [Interview]
So we get an interview instead of a b-side for this single. But this is actually quite a cute little piece - the girls interview each other with questions sent in by fans. Some of the questions are funny (like Cheryl being asked which member of the band she'd date and Kimberley is asked to make up a band member using other band member's body parts) and the girls sound like they had fun doing it. It's fun to listen to once in a while. (4/5)

04. The Show [Video]
The video is of course included on the single. It's a great one too, the girls are working in a establishment named 'Curls Allowed' that serves men - where they all have names and jobs. Cheryl is Maxi Wax and waxes men's chests, Nicola is Chelsea Tanner and spray tans rude words on the guys, Nadine is Frenchie and puts face masks of fruit and guacamole on guys' faces, Sarah is Supa Styler and gives the guys bad hairstyles and Kimberley is The Boss - she overlooks the girls' work. It's fun and a laugh to see the girls torturing the men in different ways. (5/5)

There is no Instrumental on this CD, Amazon's tracklisting is wrong btw.

Overall, this is a good single but it loses one star for having an interview instead of a b-side. 4 stars.
