5.0 out of 5 stars Guitar Genius Rises "From The Ashes", July 8, 2004
By Fred (Bay City, MI United States) - See all my reviews
It's been two years since Patrick Yandall's last release and this one was worth waiting for. With the help of some solid contemporary jazz musicians, his affinity for stretching "contemporary jazz" to its limits shows again on this latest release. The album begins with the smooth mellow groove, "Heart Promise", then "Club Humphreys" will get you out of your seat and continues with a cover of War's "All Day Music" to the upbeat "Unsung Hero" and flows into a wide spectrum of the styles and talents of this assembly of musicians. This album combines the great song writing ability of Patrick Yandall, the excellent work of the jazz musicians who joined him in this effort and the top contemporary jazz guitarist in the business today. Whether you're a contemporary jazz fan, looking for some great guitar chops or just want to enjoy some fresh new grooves, take this one for a ride. You'll be glad you did.
