Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Young Buck is out to show the rap world that he's no mere 50 Cent lackey. Yet, Buck and 50 share an equally intense love for firearms and hustle-specific wordplay. 50 utters death threats on the hook of "I'm a Soldier"--right after the gun shot sound effects, of course--and the thuggery just accelerates from there. "Do It Like Me" and "Prices on My Head" reveal Buck's Tupacian persecution complex. Burgeoning beat miners Midi Mafia rework a classical music sample to perfection on "Thou Shall," offering a little something to ease the tension. And when the G Unit comes together, the results are usually breathtaking: "Bonafide Hustler" finds 50 Cent dissing Wyclef Jean while Tony Yayo flips keen verses about peddling drugs, to the tune of "Mama's Gonna Buy You a Mockingbird." Crunk beats from Lil' Jon ("Shorty Wanna Ride") and Three 6 Mafia ("Stomp," "Taking Hits") bring Buck's Tennessee roots to the fore, perfectly matching the rapper's country cadence. Although the boasts about his 'hood exploits can get tiresome, Buck delivers some nasty, first-rate storytelling and jeep beats. --Dalton Higgins

5.0 out of 5 stars Not A Fan of G-UNIT, August 24, 2004
Im not a fan of G-Unit but out of all of them, in my opinion Young Buck is the best. Why? because I love the south period. Cash Money, No Limit (is kinda wack these days), artist like Usher, B.G. are all in my favorites. Yes YB is from the south if you didnt know.

YOUNG BUCK STRAIT OUTTA CA$HVILLE is better than Lloyd Bank's solo attempt. Young Buck warning Ja on "Black Gloves"(Is'nt this enough, he's been beatin to death by Eminem, 50, Obie Trice, Proof, Lloyd Banks, Busta Rhyme). The beats are dark, the lyrics are hard what more can I say. One of My favorite tracks on this album "Bang Bang", you might remember the hook from Kill Bill.

Best Tracks are I'm A Soldier, Do It Like Me, LET ME IN, WELCOME TO THE SOUTH, PRICES ON MY HEAD, Shorty Wanna Ride, BANG BANG, Thou Shall, Black Gloves, STOMP, WALK WITH ME, DPG UNIT.

5.0 out of 5 stars not the greatest rapper out there..., October 6, 2004
By A. Swain (Coral Gables, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I know what you're thinking: "this kid just dissed the artist in the title, but gave his CD 5 stars?" Well, let me explain.

****THE ARTIST****

I would describe Young Buck as a very decent, above-average rapper, who given the chance, can explode.

His previous songs were inconsistant and just "blah". He was good as a guest on other artists tracks, but not really worth mention.

Ahh, but 50 Cent and G-Unit came along and gave Buck his chance to explode. First by giving him his own track, with no collabs, on G-Units "Beg For Mercy". On this song, (Footprints), he definitely impresses. He sure got my attention.

But personally, I still wasn't sure about him. I remembered him from Cash Money, and that he wasn't new to the game, but I wasn't convinced.. Well, not until I heard his song "Sleep With an AK" Off of DJ Whookid & Lloyd Banks "SWAT: Global Mixtape Strike Team" (http://sandbox.pair.com/abstract/djwhookidswat.html).

So I knew he had it in him. He does a good job riding beats, but every now and then he explodes. A friend of mine put it best when he said "wow.. this man can rap his a** off".

So is Young Buck a great rapper? No. But he can sure sound like one. Lloyd banks is, all in all, a much better rapper than Young Buck. I would, however, reccommend Young Bucks "Straight Outta Ca$hville" over Banks' recently released "The Hunger For more".

****THE CD****

Yes, buy it, get it, it's great. It's definitely one of the more "gangster" CD's out there, but I'd say most people into any form of rap would love it.

The beats are nothing short of amazing. Track 2 "Do It Like Me" Is incredible. The beat is genius, and Buck really goes nuts on it. Other stand out tracks are "Shorty Wanna Ride", "Stomp" ft Ludacris and T.I., and "Welcome to the South" ft Lil Flip and David Banner.

****COLLECTORS EDITION?****

The collectors edition just comes with an extra song and some DVD you probably won't even end up watching. The song is good, but not worth the extra $5 or whatever it is. It's a song by "DPG Unit" (DPG being Dogg Pound Gangstas; Snoop, Kurupt, Nate, and Daz Dillenger). Just do like me and download it.

****RECOMMENDATIONS****

Since we're talking about DPG, let me prescribe to you a favorite cd of mine: "Kurupt - Space Boogie, Smoke Oddyssey". With tracks produced by Daz Dillenger, the man who made most of Tupac's beats (including the brilliant "Ambitionz Az a Ridah"), the CD is sure to please. Sht, it's so good that even Fred Durst impresses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ca$hville, August 31, 2004
By Nave (BK,NY) - See all my reviews
This Cd is hott. Buck reall knows how to use Tenessee roots and put it into 15 crazy songs with both southern rap styles, east and west coast rap too. There are no bad songs on it but bang bang annoys me because of the begining otherwise it is a very good song. The thing i don't like is that on Stomp they used the one with The Game which is still a excellent song but the one with T.I. is better because putting a west coast rapper in the middle of two sountern rappers doesn't seem right. I suggest you go pick up a mix tape such as Welcome to Cashville from DJ Mello or find online a way to download the Stomp w/ T.I. from the internet.
