Editorial Reviews

Product Description
70's style hard rock. ARTIST BIO: Leaning heavily on the decadence and brilliance of 70's rock icons like Cheap Trick, The New York Dolls, and KISS, and in the same vein as the new school era of rock like Brides of Destruction, The Darkness, Velvet Revolver, and The Vines; If It Ain't Broke, Break It! Is a high octane, stripped down recording that pays homage to the power of ROCK!

Starwood was created to bring a new sense of Rock and Roll to a dying Hollywood scene that was once a central point for rock and metal. Starwood does not focus on reliving the past but instead pushes forward with an intoxicating and outright electrifying blend of Rock and Roll, Punk, and good old-fashioned Metal, creating memorable songs that will keep your head banging and your metal horns in the air.

Starwood's live set is full of energy and life involving the audience with every power cord and every "shout it out loud" chorus. The bands stage presence can best be described as exhilarating and brings to mind some of the old greats that used to play the strip like Gun's and Roses and Motley Crüe, who don't just play on the stage, they own it! It's all about the excess that makes the genre fun!

Starwood began recording in December 2003 at Zanzibar studios in North Hollywood. The band finished recording and mastering in April 2004 and the end product is a rock and roll album that is sure to explode on the scene.

If It Ain't Broke, Break It! is Starwood's debut release out on Metal Blade records July 27th 2004!

Prepare for what is sure to be the year's ultimate rock album!

3.0 out of 5 stars Lizzy Borden's new image, October 11, 2004
By J. Rosales Martinez "Cokelino" (Mexico City, Mexico.) - See all my reviews
Remember Lizzy Borden? I mean "Love you to Pieces", "Visual Lies", "Master of Disguise", etc. Well Starwood are the same lineup than the one that recorded the "Deal with the Devil" album except for guitar player Joe Nelson (RIP).
The band sounds good, 80's hard rock style.
If you like bands like Motley Crue, Guns & Roses, Skid Row, you should buy this CD, but don't expect to listen Lizzy Borden.

4.0 out of 5 stars Starwood Rocks, March 25, 2005
Solid rock and roll is what I found on this release pure and simple. I think it is great to find this to be the case every once in a while and seeing how rock and metal have so much against them these days it's good to see a record like this come around. Oddly enough this one seems to be fronted by a member of a once very popular heavy metal act though none of the press releases seem to bring it up. The lead singer is named Lizzy and as I listened to him sing, I said "hey that's Lizzy Borden!!.". This was a band that had more of a cult following than legions and I liked several of their releases especially "Master Of Disguise". With this new release, Lizzie is clearly taking a very different approach and while that can be risky to some I admit the end result is quite good. Instead of metal, this piece is more along the lines of the straight ahead rock and roll normally given to you by Hanoi Rocks or old L.A. Guns. It is quite the turn for someone who was so entrenched in the metal style.

Joining Lizzy on the release is Marten Andersson, Joey Scott and Joe Steals (Marten and Joey also are from Lizzy Borden). More than the change in format, one can simply view that Lizzie Borden ceased to exist as a band and Starwood was born at the same time.

There are a bunch of catchy numbers on the CD such as "Subculture" and "All My Girlfriends Have Boyfriends" (an anthem for all the fellows who have the ton of gal pals but no significant other). The tune "Social Zero" had some moments where I felt I was listening to the "Major Tom" song by Peter Schilling from the early 80's. It was the effect used on the voice, as that's all the song has in similarity. "You're So Real" and "Bad Machine" round out my favorite tunes on this debut release.

This is clearly a high recommend from me, and if you are someone who enjoys the basic rock and roll feel as well as some ass kicking riffs you will dig this. It's a lot of fun, and so many of the tunes are quickly able to be sung along to. That does not happen a lot so it cant be a bad thing. Let's see if Lizzy made the right move by moving to a different genre of music. So far so good I am finding.

4.0 out of 5 stars Straight up Rock N Roll, January 5, 2005
I picked up this album being a huge fan of lead singer Lizzy's main band and even though this is very different from that, I was pleasently surprised. This is different. Just straight hard rock n roll. At times, the guitar and music reminds me of Guns N Roses APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION. That is a very cool thing. The albums kicks off with "Subculture" with is a great driving tune. Lizzy's incredible vocals are very identifiable and that is nto a bad thing. I love to listen to this dude sing. The songs are a bit poppy in their hooks but I enjoy that in hard rock. "Wont Back Down" continues the diretion of the album. Great songwriting making simple hard rock. I am also a big fan of the title cut. That is a "fist pupmper." I can not wait to see this band live and I do hope that Lizzy returns to his old band. However this is a great side band and well worth purchasing.
