Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
Coby's affordable DVD-R1100 makes component DVD recording easier than ever. The player/recorder offers one-button recording and a host of connections, including composite- and S-video inputs, an RF antenna/VCR input, and front-panel jacks for easy hookups with your camcorder, VCR, or other audio/video component. The front connections even include a DV input for direct digital hookup with a camcorder or computer feed. The unit's built-in tuner lets you record right off the air for convenient, time-shifted viewing of your favorite TV programs.

The DVD-R1100 records on DVD+R (write-once) and DVD+RW (rewritable) media. DVD+RW discs require no finalizing--you can record, eject, and play them with minimal fuss, thanks to "background formatting." This feature, which lowers total burning time, is an advantage over the "dash" formats.

As a player, the DVD-R1100 offers compatibility with NTSC or PAL sources (with appropriate media and monitoring), DVD-R and DVD-RW discs, MP3 CD playback for your homemade music mixes (be aware, though: there's no ID3 tag recognition for artist and title information display), and even progressive-scan component-video outputs for a seamless, flicker-free image on high-definition and HD-ready TVs.

Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (1 each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.

An onscreen display simplifies player/recorder setup and operation, and the unit comes with a full-function remote control.

What's in the Box
DVD player/recorder, remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this machine, unless..?, February 9, 2006
By ArsenalNut (New York) - See all my reviews
Okay, for the money it has a pretty awesome set of features! Trouble is, it's really unreliable. By all accounts what happen to me is pretty common! If you're as unlucky as me you'll burn a slew of coasters alongside your good recordings and then after 95 days it'll just burn out completely! The Goods news is, if it burns out within 90 days Coby will send you a new machine free of charge (or for $31 at any time after 90 days)because they don't repair. The bad news is they no longer make the 1100 and you get a free upgrade to a 1200! By all accounts the 1200 is more reliable, but, with an inferior spec. It has less imputs/outputs, including no optical output, and only has 2 channel sound capability, instead of the 5.1 available with the 1100.

...BUT apparently Coby are going to reintroduce a new (reliable) 1100 later this year? So.. if you have one, you can do like me, stick your crapped 1100 in a cupboard and watch their website and then send your $31 dollars, once the new 1100 is introduced!

2.0 out of 5 stars Worked for a while.., October 26, 2005
By R. MISKIN (Kennedale, TX United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
bought one of these a couple of months ago, It does clearly state that it is dvd+r only.. no problem there, and changing it from ntsc to pal.. only 1 click in the setup menu, and I did burn about 20 good disks with it before the problems started. It will not accept any input video from any source anymore. It has quite a few input methods.. S-video, composite, rca, and coaxial... as well as a set of front inputs. For a while it would take anything i could throw at it, now, there is no picture from anything except watching a disk on it. Coby customer support was easy to reach, and nice enough, but acted like they had never had any problems with it,and even after escalating the call to one of the 3 "super-tech's" the most I could get was to reset the machine. Not very helpful.

Skip this one!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, November 14, 2005
This machine was great while it worked. Great price. Decent playback quality. Loved the support of the various DVD formats.

But.....

The machine died 2 weeks after the warranty ran out...
