Jensen's stylish, imminently affordable Champion Series 2-way, bookshelf C220 speakers can flesh out your home theater with surround sound, fill your dorm or apartment with music, or provide gentle background ambience in your bedroom or business. Use one pair for stereo or surround applications or pick up two pairs (4 speakers) for use as the front
and surround elements in a multichannel listening system. Movies will sound more lifelike and enveloping with timbrally matched speakers all around, and plenty of newer music formats--from the DTS surround CD to DVD-Audio and SACD--offer music from your favorite artists mixed expressly for surround-sound listening.
Mate them with a powered subwoofer to fill in the lowest frequencies, and you'll be ready for the anything. (Alternately, you could use these as surround speakers with larger, floorstanding speakers for the front left/right channels.)
Standing just 14 inches tall, the C220 speakers each use a 30 mm soft-dome tweeter for sweet high frequencies and a 6.5-inch cone woofer for filling out the bass frequencies. They're not the most efficient speakers on the planet, but they'll do fine with as little as 15 watts per channel while handling amplifiers as powerful as 75 watts per channel. Durable binding-post speaker terminals offer strong connections with your speaker cable for high-efficiency signal transfer from cable to speaker.
Place the speakers so that the tweeters are on a level plane with your ears. If you install the speakers in a wall enclosure, take care to ensure that the front panels of the speakers are flush with the front of the wall. Jensen also recommends positioning the speakers at least 3 feet away from the television to keep the speaker magnets from interfering with the set's picture, at least 1 foot from any side wall, and a minimum of 8 inches from the rear wall. This prevents exaggerated or "booming" bass and helps the speakers produce more balanced, detailed sound.
