Product Description
Anna Friel heads a distinguished cast in this award-winning World War II drama about a high-spirited English war bride who struggles to adjust to her new life on her soldier husband Charlie's remote family farm in Canada. Charlie’s mother (Brenda Fricker, My Left Foot) and polio-stricken sister (Molly Parker, Deadwood) are hostile to the "big city" newcomer, but Lily is determined not to let them break her spirit. This London war brides's optimism is tested when her Canadian soldier husband sends her to live with his mother and sister on a ranch in Alberta. He said he owned 'a lot of land', but she was hardly prepared for the great stretches of the prairie, the cold of the outhouse in winter, or the hostility of his family. Her irrepressible spirit helps them cope with some significant issues as they move toward becoming a real family. Heartland awarded this movie top prize of its 2002 (?) Festival as a movie that exemplified 'the positive power of the human spirit'.

This is one of the best movies made about the displaced brides during the war HOWEVER it is sorely misrepresented as being CLOSED_CAPTIONED when it is NOT!!! It is very difficult to understand some of the English dialogue and takes away from the enjoyment of the film. I was stupid enough to buy two of these dvd"s hoping to get ONE that was closed captioned!! The Movie is fantastic however!!!

This is a great movie but I have to agree that the story sometimes is hard to understand because of the English accent. Also the end was disappointing as we just didn't understand what transpired at all. That's why the 3 stars instead of five.
Good though.
