Congradulations Wendy James, October 7, 2005
I delayed posting this several days to check some things, relisten to Racine, and find the nerve to say what needs to be said. The insert confirmed what I remembered. "All songs **written**, **played** **arranged** and **mixed** by Wendy James." An impartial musician friend listen to a few tracks and said her ability [with the range of instruments] wasn't bad, and added, he had friends that could do that too. I responded, "on their first album?" He said, "wellllll. . . no." [sansMiliVanili] I SAY, CONGRADULATIONS WJ
I am blown away by this album. It's difficult to believe that a single personality achieved such diversity and excellence across a single album. Racine is like the "white album" in that, each track is unique and "fun." (I'm not saying that Racine is musically like the "while album.") It also has two interesting qualities that are Jim Morrison like. The first is benign. Racine is pure artistry. I am not sure where it fits into the current music scene. However, the second quality is dangerous. The musical punctuation recasts the lyrics. This gives it an ethereal charm that is elusive, deep, cleverly woven. . . It sings of her youth, disappointment, frustration, pain, energy, joie de vivre. . . Finally, I was not disappointed by what I did expect. The vocals are pure WJ. Clearly, Racine is the metamorphosis of a misunderstood talent and betrays the existence of a brilliant mind. WJ didn't know... You can bet the days before WJ committed herself to doing Racine were filled a sense of unfairness, horrible emotional pain and tears. However, what a moment it must have been when WJ finally found "itso". Perhaps insights from Sir J M Berrie can bring comfort to those who have difficulty with this. Copywrite 2005

Good stuff, August 21, 2006
amazing that she played all instruments on this and wrote everything. as reviews show, the Uk despised her, unusually so, but her voice, which isnt strong but has a unique style is great for rock an roll. The British review was unusually vicious. I am surprised!
James belongs to the Debbie Harry type of rock and roll singers(the albums not the novelty singels like Tide is high), girls in front of guitar bands from Annabella to Clare Grogan to Tracy Tracy to Shirley Manson to Chrissy Amphlett as opposed to the las vegas non rock pop [...],(with women singing in front of cheesy cookie counter synthesized arrangements or with session guys behind them) that Madonna made famous(like BRitney , Kelly Clarkson & all that junk).Wendy is errouneously grouped with madonna sometimes, not true! old transvision vamp trax like You put a spell on me, Bad Valentine, Right through your head, and Dont believe the hype and This is a test and We despise you on her solo album are great rock and roll. If Blondie albums are your type of music, you will like Racine, if you are looking for madonnamusic forget it.
