5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent, November 24, 2004
This album is incredible, too good to pigeon-hole into a `musical category'. This is music that challenges a real music lover, not to mention its complete unpredictability. Even after spending time with this music, the evolution of these songs remains enigmatic. Not bizarre, rather easy and pleasant to listen to. Each song has a completely individual sound. I can't compare this album or musician to any other, and to try to seems insulting. The instruments, samples and sounds are another subject altogether; a beautiful blend of sounds not typically blended together. I can't gush enough - buy it!
***UPDATE***
Saw CANTINERO Live last night and it was remarkable. Much to my surprise, this man's complex studio music interprets perfectly on the stage. He is charismatic, engaging and extremely talented. I highly recommend the CD and now I recommend that you figure out how to see them LIVE. Go to their website www.cantinero.com to watch & listen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great innovative songwrting, March 17, 2005
If you love great songwriting, you owe it to yourself to buy this cd...it takes 3 listens and you are hooked...it is sublime...no songs hit you over the head...but you will go to sleep hummming the last song ...if you like Josh Rouse...you will like Cantinero!
Every song is a gem...check out the samples...and enjoy...

5.0 out of 5 stars Genious from Birmingham !, February 16, 2006
By pete shields "axepete" (Mansfield Notts England) - See all my reviews
Chris Hicken is nothing short of a genious, and a lovely bloke.
( I'm praying for your beloved Baggies Chris ! )
He writes beautiful songs with superb lyrics and a really strong melodies.
Championship Boxing should be in everyone's CD collection.
I play it constantly and my personal favourite tracks are The Conversation, which is obviously a tough love story about Chris's dad and the stunning Astronaut.
Lovers of thoughtful, inspirational music please buy this album - you will grow to love it.

3.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't pack much of a punch
It doesn't pack much of a punch, but the mellow vocals and experimental instrumentation combination may take you down to the mat just the same.
