5.0 out of 5 stars The most satisfying CD I've bought in a while, March 5, 2005
I discovered this group through Amazon's similar interests linking. After downloading a couple of songs to sample, I liked what I heard enough to buy the CD. I enjoyed it a lot after I picked it up in early December of 2004; it seemed solid from start to finish, though it took a few listens for all of the tracks to really grow on me. And it's done just that; I've turned away from none of the tracks; this is an album I truly enjoy from start to finish, and I appreciate it a lot.

Musically, Submersed has a really unique sound about them; I'm really not sure how to describe it, but one should be able to understand it upon hearing some of their music. Their vocalist and lyricist, Donald Carpenter, also provides unique material with his wide vocal range and lyrics that are actually thought provoking. Check out the band info on the official site (http://www.submersed.com/) for info on Donald's background and how it affects his writings.

Here I will try to describe each track:

1. "Hollow": The first single is also the opener for the album. Containing a contrast of gentle music and raging guitars, as well as showing off most of Donald Carpenter's wide range, this track does a great job of demonstrating the various feel of the music on the rest of the album.

2. "To Peace": Starts heavy and stays that way. Though there's nothing inherently wrong with it and it is quite enjoyable, this track never has grabbed me as one to stand out from the rest of the album; it just fits in.

3. "In Due Time": Title track for the album, and well worth it, I'd say. This one's another all-heavy track. I find the flow to be particularly enjoyable.

4. "Dripping": After two tracks of almost solid guitars, things get a little mellower here. The track begins with some distant thunder, and then kicks in with the guitars after the first verse. The title of this track confuses me; the only relevance I find is the storm and rain sounds.

5. "Flicker": One of the longer tracks on the album. Another one to start slow, its structure seems somewhat like that of "Dripping", but without getting repetitive; it certainly maintains its own distinct sound. This one ends heavy, which is a trait I like in slow, long songs.

6. "Parallelism": The most commonly misspelled track on the album. Perhaps the most notable feature of this song is the effective manner in which Donald Carpenter's falsetto voice is integrated with the chorus.

7. "Deny Me": Possibly my favorite song from the album; I was disappointed by it at first because I'd downloaded an older incarnation that I liked better. However, I've come to appreciate them both for different reasons. This version offers some of the most stellar guitar work on the album.

8. "You Run": This track is both lyrically confusing and inspiring. Has another brief showing of Donald Carpenter's falsetto voice.

9. "Divide the Hate": Track 9 of 11 of the album; according to Submersed's site, this song's lyrics were written in light of the terrorist attacks of 9/11. I'm not really sure what to say about it other than it's a fairly heavy song.

10. "Piano Song": This could use a better name; beyond the first few seconds, I hear no piano at all. I find it to be the least interesting song on the album, but it's still great music.

11. "Unconcerned": Tying "Flicker" for the longest track on the album, this one's fairly mellow overall. Offering a sense of conclusion, this makes an excellent and satisfying ending for the album.

With this satisfying debut, Submersed truly establishes a unique sound that is sure to please anybody who's looking for hard music with intelligent lyrics. I strongly recommend this album, and I'm eagerly awaiting their next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome like a possum!, February 7, 2005
By RMadd (Springfield, MO USA) - See all my reviews
This is easily among my more favorite CD's I've purchased in recent months (and I've bought quite a few). These guys can rock out like very few other bands can these days. Guitarist Eric Friedman is flippin' amazing! I've seen these guys live once and they absolutely rocked the house, even if very few people there had heard of 'em. So if you like other Post-Grunge artists on Wind-Up (Creed, Alter Bridge, Edgewater, etc.) you'll absolutely love Submersed. And since it was co-produced by Mark Tremonti (guitarist, formerly of Creed, now of Alter Bridge), you know it's gotta rock!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Stuff I have Heard in Awhile, November 11, 2004
By AgentBook (Orlando, Fl) - See all my reviews
Submersed is rocking, its rare to find a band that actually has some talent, and a good vocalist these days among most of the crap that is churned out by record companies and repeated on radio stations.

Submersed is a breath of fresh air, just good old fashioned rock, which is hard to come by today. It is even more rare to find a band that has more than one good song on the CD, start to finish this is an excellent CD, you wont be dissapointed.

Other bands should take note, this is what we want to hear, not that melodic emo crap that is churning the airwaves.
