Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Perfecting their own brand of cyber industrial metal and integrating heaven and hell, Dante's "Inferno", and Handel's "Messiah" as the major themes, HuG have recorded possibly their most ironically anarchistic and ferociously heavy release to date. "Scheissmessiah" features their signature blend of Deutsch and English along with aggressively gritty guitars and growling vocals.

4.0 out of 5 stars First, what? and second, no., December 15, 2004
By Zix Katz "Zix" (Columbus, OH) - See all my reviews
The above audio tracks are from some band but not H.U.G. Go the metropolis label site to hear a few actual clips from the new CD until they get with it here. Right track names but wrong audio. What is currently up there is pure... well it's pretty bad and someone should be embarrassed. Hopefully they'll have fixed this by the time people are reading this "review" and it will make no sense to anyone.

It's actually a good CD that gives Uber Alles a run for its money. It's electro-metal that'll make hyperactive teens drive fast and break things. IMO, you should buy two!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST SHEISSE I'VE HEARD IN YEARS!, November 29, 2004
This CD is awesome from beginning to end! I've been a fan since ausgeflippt in the late 90's and HuG has been steadily getting better and better! Scheissmessiah is clearly their heaviest offering to date and once again they have delivered a unique and hilariously ironic masterpiece in an otherwise mundane genre that to often takes itself way too seriously! This one is like a hellish nightmare set to handel's messiah with all kinds of kaiser era german inuendo. personal favs are disko fire scheissmessiah , kaiser von shizer, and 10th circle (no idea what language this one is). brutal and just in time for christmas! AWESOME!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums of the year, October 23, 2004
I haven't been a fan of Hanzel und Gretyl for very long. It has been a year since I received my first HuG "Uber Alles" cd courtesy of Outburn magazine (for subscribing to the magazine). I also had heard a couple of tracks previously thanks to a friend of mine who had burned for me a few songs of theirs on cd, but it wasn't until "Uber Alles" that really made me a HuG. I recently saw the band perform live (w/Ministry, Dope, and My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult). During the concert, I bought their new cd "Scheissmessiah" which they were selling prior to the official record release. I bought it after seeing the band perform a few songs from the cd live. Here on "Scheissmessiah", the band explores the subject matter of heaven and hell hence some of the song titles like "Sheissway to Hell" and "Purity". "Scheissmessiah" totally blows "Uber Alles" away (and I love "Uber Alles". Vas Kallas is more ferocious than ever. The rapid fire drumming of Jon Osterman and heavy bass licks by former Drain STH bassist Anna K. provided the band a meaty backbone and gave the band an even more aggressive sound than what I have heard before. I love all the songs on this cd but the standout tracks for me has to be the catchy "Disko Fire Scheiss Messiah", "Hellalujah", and "Burning Bush". Those songs are just as catchy and just as aggressive as "SS Deathstar Supergalatic" (from "Uber Alles"). "Hallelujah" is one of my favorite songs on the cd withe fusion of opera and industrial music which makes for an explosive combination. If you don't like the current commander in chief, you will love "Burning Bush". It is an obvious direct attack on our current commander in thief, er, chief. Very catchy. On this song, Loopy actually takes front and center on the vocals. Most of the songs are not sung in English but I pretty much could tell what the songs were about. All the songs are great. I was not disappointed. Hanzel und Gretyl is the best band I have heard that combines metal and industrial music. Unlike a lot of bands in their genre, Hanzel und Gretyl has a dry sense of humor. On their last album, they had a fascist Germany theme (which people totally blew out of proprtion). On "Scheissmessiah", it is about heaven and purgatory.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album but not Uber
This is classic industrial with goth-metal mixed in, a tint of evil vs. good if you will. The album is a sort of follow up to their popular Uber Alles CD. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Sounds better in German (TM)
The title of Hanzel und Gretyl's latest album, "Scheissmessiah," translates to "S*** Messiah." Of course, that sounds better in German - and that could be HUG's motto: "Sounds... Read more
