4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT for the price!!!, February 22, 2005
By Kara (Dover, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Evenflo Comfort Selet Manual Breast Pump (Baby Product)
This is my second breast pump. The first one I had was electric and I used it maybe a doz. times. First of all it made my nipples very sore because the suction was so vigoreous and I had no way to really control it and second, the motor died on me. Having a manual one is nice because you can control the vacuum to whatever feels comfertable. And this one in particular has many different settings. The silicone piece that fits inside the horn is SO comfertable and massages you while you are pumping. The nipple to the bottle is perfect for my little nurser. It is shaped just like a real nipple and the flow is perfect. The assembly is extremely easy along with washing! The only thing that I do not like about this product is that my hands get tired from pumping. But I guess that is expected when you pump manually.
WAY TO GO EVENFLO
Hope this helps!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Horrible pump, great company, August 9, 2010
This review is from: Evenflo Comfort Selet Manual Breast Pump (Baby Product)
I have now used two manual pumps. I prefer manual because I can control the pump speed myself, they are lightweight, cheap, and easy to take along in a purse. I have been using a Madela Harmony manual pump, and I LOVE it. But I just went on a trip and accidentally left it at my sister's house. I pump everyday (already back at work full time) so I needed another pump ASAP. I bought the Evenflo Comfort select because it was $15 cheaper than the madela manual pump at Burlington. Well, I really wish I had just spent the extra money on the one I knew was good. First, the evenflo manual pump does do the job--just not as well as I would like. I definitely got my usual 8 ounces of milk in about 20 or 30 minutes, and the cone that sits around my breast was very comfortable. The problem is all with the pump assembly. The handle is bigger than the madela Harmony, so it is harder for someone with medium or small hands to actually get a good grip around it. If you have large hands, i guess you'll be fine. I thought it would be nice to have the variable vacuum setting for pumping, but it is so stiff on the maximum setting, that my hands tire out right away (and I'm a pretty strong person!). So I have it on the easiest setting and it is still harder to pump than the madela manual pump. Now for the real kicker, the pump assembly occasionally jumps off the "horn" assemble. Basically I will be pumping right along and the pump and handle part will just come right off. This happened about 3 or 4 times in a single pumping. I was fed up.

So I called Evenflo and after being on hold for about 5 minutes I spoke to a very nice representative. With breast-pumps, once you use them, you can't return them.. According to her this is not a common problem, but it seems to me to be a design problem not a defect with my particular pump. She did a little trouble-shooting with me and then gave me two options (1) get a replacement pump or (2) get credit to purchase something else with them. We opted for the credit because we buy a lot of other evenflo products. I'm definitely bummed that I now have to go buy a new pump, but at least they were really nice about trying to reimburse us with other products, and we don't have to pay for shipping. Also, we get to keep the nipple and breast pads that came with the pump, so that is nice.

Bottom line: if you are going to use a manual pump, go with the Madela Harmony. This one by Evenflo is much more difficult to use, much less comfortable, and possible defective.

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of garbage, July 19, 2010
This review is from: Evenflo Comfort Selet Manual Breast Pump (Baby Product)
This pump never worked for me. There's something wrong with the valves or something where the milk doesn't even make it into the bottle. It leaked out the handle part, so I ended up with milk all over myself. Then I washed it to see if I could get it to work, and it smelled moldy. What a waste of $20.
