3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, but I was hoping for better., November 18, 2004
By C. W. Fitch (Wichita Falls, TX) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This theme collection from the WWE wasn't as highly anticipated as ones from the past. In fact, when I took a look at the track listing and saw which wrestlers were represented, I almost didn't buy it. I decided to give it a chance, though, because Jim Johnston usually does a great job with theme music. Here's what I think of it:

The CD:
-"Line in the Sand": Motorhead scores with another solid theme. The hard rock really fits Evolution's "lifestyle" and ring presence.
-"Cool": Carlito's "Caribbean Cool" is expressed pretty well in this one; his little catchphrases and spitting sounds all but ruin it, though.
-"MacMilitant": This theme actually used to belong to Teddy Long's charge Rodney Mack, but once Rodney was released from WWE, it became property of Mr. Long. A smooth yet hardcore rap with some vicious overtones that don't quite fit in some places.
-"Just Close Your Eyes": This one tried to be a departure from the usual angry stuff that's in other superstars' themes, but it's a forgettable female-vocal-over-a-generic-rock-guitar-riff track.
-"Dangerous Politics": You know whose theme this is from the first two seconds. Heidenreich repeats his name over and over again (much like his promos) over a heavy guitar riff that gives the impression of an oncoming train. So-so.
-"Real Good Girl": So-Cal beach rock with quasi-raunchy lyrics for the Diva Search theme. Yeah, it fits, but didn't really impress.
-"Chavito Ardiente": Ooooh, Chavo! This song is perfect for a guy who thinks he's a Latin heartthrob. Not a bad Latino jam.
-"The Darkest Side": Oh, boy, another Undertaker theme. This one isn't any different from the version from WWE Anthology except for the subtle drone of the rock guitar under the sinister funeral dirge. Brings back good memories, though, of what the Dead Man once was.
-"Child's Play": Eugene's one of the most loved superstars on RAW, and his "Eye of the Tiger"-ish theme is a perfect match. The guitar solo in the middle gets a little out of hand, but maybe that was the intention.
-"Don't Mess With": Booty music. Pure and simple. And not even good booty music, if there is such a thing.
-"Ain't No Stoppin' Me": In my opinion, the best theme on the CD. Catchy rock/rap beat and positive, almost inspirational, lyrics. I've sung along with Shelton Benjamin's theme a time or two in the car.
-"You Can Run": Gangsta rap and Kidman go together like mayonnaise and ice cream. Doesn't fit Kidman's character at all, and the Master P-like grunts in the rap are just annoying.
-"Rise Up": Hmmm. Nu-metal. Done to death. Next.
-"International Woman": Gail Kim was released by WWE recently as well, and when this CD was put together, she was hardly being used at all. I'm very surprised this one made it to print. Asian-flavored futuristic pop. It grows on you.
-"Longhorn": Reminds me of the theme from "Dallas". How appropriate. Skip over it.
-"Untouchables": Okay, I'll admit John Cena has a bit of talent as a rapper. He's got decent flow. If you're trying to establish your rap career, though, don't pair up with someone who's better than you, especially if you're advertising a new album coming out soon. That's what happened here.

The DVD:
-This is just a collection of entrance videos (which play on the monitors in the arena as the wrestlers come toward the ring). Good for one or two viewings at most.

This collection is not one of WWE's better ones, and there were a couple of themes that were GLARINGLY omitted. Randy Orton's theme ("Take What's Mine" by Mercy Drive) really needed to be on here, as well as Edge's new "heel" theme. I understand that these songs are owned by licensed artists, but if WWE is using them in the arenas, why can't they put them on the CD, too? It's not like they can't afford to pay the royalties.
I would recommend getting this CD if you simply must own every WWE music collection. Otherwise, there are only two or three songs on here worth keeping.

4.0 out of 5 stars Theme Addict - The Newest WWE Release, November 16, 2004
By Chad Mosher (Flint, MI) - See all my reviews
This CD by the WWE contains all but two current themes. The track listing and reviews follow:

01:"Line In the Sand" - Evolution: The second song made by Motorhead for the WWE. Fits the group perfectly, and is a nice rock song. 9/10
02: "Cool" - Carlito Caribbean Cool: A relatively new theme, surprising it made it on here. The beat is nice, but it gets kind of repetitive after a while. 7/10
03: "MacMilitant" - Theodore R. Long (Previously Rodney Mack) - Pretty good rap/rock combonation. It doesn't fit Teddy as well as it did Rodney. So, I'll balance them out and give it a 7/10
04: "Just Close Your Eyes" - Christian - The full version of a theme Christian debuted only a couple of days ago. It isn't that fitting of him, but nevertheless, it's a very good tune. 9/10
05: "Dangerous Politics" - Heidenreich - Like Carlito, it's pretty repetitive. The beat is nice, but isn't the best when it's repeated for 3:00. 6/10
06: "Real Good Girls" - $250,000 RAW Diva Search - Kinda lame, kinda cheesy. It was nice for the event it was made for. 7/10
07: "Chavito Ardiente" - Chavo Guerrero - Kind of like Carlito and Heidenreich, somewhat repetitive. 7/10.
08: "The Darkest Side [Remix]" - The Undertaker - Very, very sweet remix. It is a combo of 1990's Undertaker, Ministry Undertaker and 2004 Undertaker. Quite possibly the best one on the CD - 10/10
09: "Child's Play" - Eugene - I wish they had his previous one on there, but this one will have to suffice. 7/10.
10: "Don't Mess With" - Victoria - This wasn't so bad. It's a very good song, very fitting for Victoria. - 8/10
11: "Ain't No Stoppin' Me" - Shelton Benjamin - A little repetitive, but not as bad as Heidenreich or Carlito. - 8/10
12: "You Can Run" - Billy Kidman - A little too short, and was released as an online bonus track for 2002's Anthology. If you downloaded that, you aren't missing anything. This isn't really fitting of his character. - 7/10
13: "Rise Up" - SmackDown! - Another great song on the CD.. The fourth song WWE has used by Drowning Pool. It would almost fit any superstar, so it's great that it's for SmackDown! - 10/10
14: "International Woman" - Gail Kim - One of my personal faves, so it gets a little bias. - 8/10.
15: "Longhorn" - John "Bradshaw" Layfield - Another song that repeats over and over again. If it had a different instrumental after about a minute, it'd be fine. 7/10.
16: "Untouchables" by John Cena - A preview of John Cena's upcoming rap CD, not a bad track. - 9/10.

All in all, a pretty good CD. It gets an average score of 8/10. I'd reccomend you get out and buy this.

4.0 out of 5 stars I spit in the face of people who don't want to be cool!, November 19, 2004
By Steve-O (New York) - See all my reviews
The 6th collection of WWE entrance themes. Individual song reviews:

1. Line In The Sand (Evolution) - Pretty good song; it's Motorhead, so you can only come to expect greatness from them. My only gripe is that it's a bit.. well, short. 9/10.
2. Cool (Carlito Caribbean Cool) - Now this is cool. Cool like him, Carlito Caribbean Cool. The catchy tropical island music with Carly's dubbed over catchphrases really fit the Caribbean character very well. It's quite reminiscent of a certain wrestling-icon-turned-movie-star, don't you think? "Ohh yeah!" 10/10.
3. MacMilitant (Theodore Long) - Smooth, catchy background music with rap and a bit of funk and soul. Fits the new General Manager very well, and not a bad song to boot. 8/10.
4. Just Close Your Eyes (Christian) - While I do like the song and its dark, somewhat catchy image, I'm not sure how well it fits Christian. Nevertheless, it's a good song. 7.5/10.
5. Dangerous Politics (Heidenreich) - HEI-DEN-REICH! HEI-DEN-REICH! It's insane. It's fun. Who doesn't want to blast this in his stereoplayer and walk around like a madman? HEI-DEN-REICH! 7/10.
6. Real Good Girl (Raw Diva Search Theme) - Fairly average song, but worth a listen or two. 6/10.
7. Chavito Ardiente (Chavo Guerrero) - Probably the closest we'll ever get to Eddie Guerrero's theme. Chavo's version is quite catchy and fits the character well. "Ooooh, Chaaavo!" 8/10.
8. The Darkest Side (Undertaker Re-Mix) - Not the exact same version heard on TV, but not all that off either. The first half of this track is almost identical to the "Graveyard Symphony" remake on TV. After that, a piece of the Deadman's Ministry of Darkness theme chimes in for the latter half. After that minor revisit, we travel back to "Graveyard Symphony", and the song ends there. Personally, I'd rather have the full theme from the shows, but that doesn't mean this remix isn't good. 9/10.
9. Child's Play (Eugene) - One of the catchiest themes on the disc. While I like the older version with less bass, the new remake isn't bad. I just wish that version was included here because it's the theme that we've all familiarized Eugene with. Oh well. I suppose this theme will get better with time. 7.5/10
10. Don't Mess With (Victoria) - Ehhh... I'm not sure I like it. It's catchy, it's somewhat funky, but it's also... stupid. The lack of real, actual lyrical content urks me. It's somewhat good party music, I guess, but... meh. 5/10.
11. Ain't No Stoppin' Me (Shelton Benjamin) - Catchy. Nice. Gets you pumped up, which is exactly what a theme music should do, especially for a guy like Shelton Benjamin. 8/10.
12. You Can Run (Billy Kidman) - Not bad. Not good, either. I don't really like it. 5/10.
13. Rise Up (SmackDown! Theme) - Fairly good theme, and fits the whole feel of the Smackdown! show really well. 7/10.
14. International Woman (Gail Kim) - Eh, it's pop music. It's good to listen to if you just feel like chilling. The song also has a bit of that K-Pop feel, but personally, I don't think Korean pop music has a place in wrestling. 6/10.
15. Longhorn (John 'Bradshaw' Layfield) - Heh, this theme is awesome. I didn't like it when it first debuted on the show, but now I love it -- ever since some guys recommended driving around with it blasting in the car stereo. Best. Use. Of Theme Music. Ever. 10/10.
16. Untouchables (John Cena) - This is the first sample of John Cena's upcoming musical career, and I have to say I like it. No, Cena isn't as good as some of the other established veterans in the rap game, but for a wrestler, he gets the job done. 9/10.
