Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

50 Cent is now a full two dollars, according to pop culture exchange rates. His sheer influence on music charts, and thugs hearts, changed things. So why then on Massacre is the 'hood drama that one would think he'd want to leave behind even more front-and-center than on Get Rich or Die Tryin'? It's hard to say, but 50's developed a questionable gun fetish here. With firearms plastered all over the liner notes, and throughout most of his lyrics--on "In My Hood" he retorts "…I don't go nowhere without my strap"--apparently his nouveau rich status has only accelerated the number of enemies he's accumulated. On "I'm Supposed to Die Tonight" he even awkwardly forecasts Notorious B.I.G.-like, Tupac-ian rap game death scenarios. "Piggy Bank," a virtual diss fest further cements his "How to Rob" persona as Nas and Fat Joe get the lyrical smack down; so does A-list actor Vivica Fox ("Get In My Car") for even daring to consider their rendezvous to be anything more than a fling. Despite beat contributions from Aftermath hombres (Eminem, Dr. Dre), some of the better beats come courtesy of lesser-known beatsmiths like Disco D ("Ski Mask Way") and the always consistent Hi-Tek, whose "Ryder Music" is a sick concoction of keys and haunting vocals. At 22 tracks (with no inane interludes), it's worth the loot, but it doesn't cover up 50's artistic regression since Get Rich. --Dalton Higgins

1.0 out of 5 stars like hearin' the same records over and over again, March 18, 2005
By Blue187 "CC" (Long Beach , CA) - See all my reviews
The lirics are worthless , the diss on nas and shyne ain't S**t and the beats are simular to his previos album Get rich and die trin' which a lot betta. Shyne ripped his ass with "for the record" and the best he came with was piggy bank. 50 yo ain't nothin' but fake G.
EM , shoot him in the doom coas this b***h embarasment.
peace and keep it real

1.0 out of 5 stars Keep your Recipt, March 19, 2005
It's funny how a person who is only within his second album is already enemies with R.Kelly, Fat Joe, Nas, Ja Rule, and Jadakiss. Now If you thought Eminem made enemies quickly, think again, because 50 Cent is about to take over in that stage. When he claims that the reason why he has "beef" with these rappers is simply because of their colaboration with Ja Rule, it's rather imature of a person who is suppose to be a role model to the fans that listen to him. What kind of message is, "It's okay to hate a person simply because they have some association with someone you are truly enemies with?" I have never been a fan of 50 Cent, and "In Da Club" was the most overexagerated track to have ever been released. I could barely make out what he was saying, and to be honest, could have cared less for what he was saying either. The title of this album is just as arrogant as he is becoming...The Massacre...he's going to destroy all "competition." Well 50, sit down because you're not the greatest figure in the rap industry, you're still new to this, and have a lot of growing up and realization to do. The funniest part about this album is how he is trying to maintain this street cred. and be all hardcore, and his first single is "Candy Shop," probably the most sell out song to ever come out. It's typical. How many times have we heard the Arabian inspired beat? Truth Hurts has done it, even Jadakiss with "U Make Me Wanna." So now who's biting off of who? And, When your own "crew mate" can't even stay with you for longer then 3 months after their album release, there must be something really wrong with you personally. "Disco Inferno" yeah, that's street now isn't it? He tries to hold this image, but his music does not obtain to it. He does not deserve all this recognition, and I can not wait for the day when people realize he is not all he is made out to be.

2.0 out of 5 stars Horrible...in every way., March 4, 2005
I managed to hear this album about 2 weeks before it was released to the public and I'm very thankful that I did...So I would not be one of the millions that are going to be sadly upset with the content of the album. I only found 2 tracks on the entire album that I would not use the "FF" button on..."Get in my Car" and "Die tonight" the rest are just horrible...if not the beat then the lyrics. 50 has lost it and when he dropped The Game from G-Unit he dropped the best one from the G-Unit including 50...He should have been dropping Young Buck and Lord Banks, I know I am not alone when I say that I am feeling The Game for than both of those artist. The entire thing with Piggy Bank is just something to help 50 sell records and everyone is buying right into...When your album is "sub-par" you have to find a way to make it sell and that is just what he did. We all know that Jadakiss will kill 50 on the mic...it's going to wild when "Time is MOney" drops and Jadakiss "Airs Him OUt"...I predict that when the next 50 album drops we will be beefing with Eminem and DRE, dropped for Shady Records, and using the beef with Em to sell records. This album was a Joke. My best advice is find someone that has it and burn it...save your money.
