Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Citizen JR3060-59F titanium flight chronograph digital/analog watch is made for the man who never knows what time zone he'll be in from one hour to the next. It's also powered by Citizen's unique Eco-Drive, which absorbs sunlight and any artificial light through the crystal and dial to recharge the watch continuously. The fast-forward timekeeping features include time and calendar in twenty-two time zones, thirty cities, three world time alarms, a 99-minute countdown timer, one-touch interchangeable analog/digital time, and 1/100-second chronograph that measures up to 24 hours. The large round watch case features sleek, modern lines and a bi-directional rotating slide rule bezel. The black dial background features large silver-tone hands and Arabic numerals. It also features a durable, lightweight satin-finished titanium bracelet, water resistance to 330 feet (100 meters), and a scratch-resistant, non-reflective mineral crystal.

Titanium is nearly 50 percent lighter than steel, but 30 percent stronger. It's also particularly resistant to salt water corrosion.

Summary of Features:

  • Three world time alarms
  • 1/100 second chronograph measures up to 24 hours of elapsed time
  • 99 minute countdown timer

The Citizen Watch Brand

The company was established in 1924. The founding fathers selected the name Citizen so it would be "Close to the Hearts of People Everywhere" and soon after adopted the company’s formal name, Citizen Watch Company.

During the last seventy-five years Citizen has expanded its business throughout the world and has achieved recognition as the global brand. The past twenty-five year period has coincided with the company’s dramatic rise to its current position as the world’s largest watchmaker, a distinction Citizen has held every year since 1986.

Beyond sheer size, Citizen is also recognized as a worldwide leader in advanced technology. From the world’s slimmest LCD watch to the first voice recognition watch and the world’s first professional dive watch with an electronic depth sensor, Citizen’s record of "world’s firsts" is unmatched.

More recently, Citizen has staked out a new position as the leader in Ecologically Friendly timekeeping with its Eco-Drives watches that are light powered. With models ranging from dress models to sports models to professional dive watches, Citizen Eco-Drive runs continuously in any kind of natural or artificial light for a lifetime of use. Fueled by light, it never needs a battery.

Eco-Drive Frequently Asked Questions (See the full Citizen Eco-Drive FAQ here)

How can you tell if the Eco-Drive watch is getting enough light?
In normal use, the watch displays the time and the sweep-second hand moves in one second intervals. A very important feature of Eco-Drive is the Low Charge Warning Mode which as a result of low battery voltage, causes the second hand to jump two seconds at a time (while still keeping correct time).

How long will an Eco-Drive watch run after it is fully charged?
If your watch is put away where no light is available to it while in a fully charged state, depending on the model, it will run for from 45 days to 5 years.

How can the Eco-Drive watch be recharged?
Besides sunlight, it can be safely charged by exposing it to a fluorescent desk lamp, with the dial (face) up and within about 8 inches or an incandescent lamp (regular light bulb) no closer than 20 inches. Never use a halogen lamp since the heat generated by it can cause damage to your watch. The most efficient and the quickest is in direct bright sunlight (not windowsill) and never on the dashboard of a car.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great watch if you're careful with it, November 20, 2004
By L. A. Kane (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
First the good news: this is a superbly designed watch. The advanced features (e.g., chronograph, world time zone settings, alarms) are easy to use and understand. Due to the Eco-drive system, the battery lasts practically forever and it keeps accurate time. The titanium version is much lighter than the stainless and it really is waterproof. If you are a pilot the slide bezel works great for calculating fuel consumption, speed, etc. The safety clasp fastens securely and is easy to use.

Now the bad news: it's shockingly fragile. Granted I'm fairly hard on watches, so the fact that the crystal got all scratched up was sort of a given. That happens to me all the time. What I didn't expect, however, is that the titanium case and band was abraded just as easily. Unlike a stainless band, it's very obvious when the titanium one is scratched; the damage clearly shows up as bright silver lines on the matte titanium finish.

If I had this to do all over again I'd get the stainless version and live with the extra weight. In fact, when this one dies (or I just get tired of looking at all the surface blemishes) I will buy the stainless one. It's a little cheaper too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great watch but not perfect, March 29, 2005
I got this watch as a gift and its perfect since i travel a lot around the world.

PROS -
- definitely recommend the titanium version. this is a big watch and steel could be heavy. worth the 40$ price diff.
- nice clean look (steel grey) goes with business and casual attire.
- the solar powered battery is great and charging works very well.
- Switching analog dial between time zones is real easy.
- Two alarms, timer, stop watch etc.

CONS:
- An annoying quirk is that you cannot set time zones that are in 1/2 hr intervals. eg: places in south asia, canada etc.
- the UTC dial is pretty much useless. and takes up space on the watch face.
- the time zones are coordinated together. eg: in Italy they have daylight savings a week earlier than the US. but if i set the italian time forward, the US time also sets forward.
- The analog dial CANNOT be set independently. It only follows the digital time set in one of the time zones.

In summary, the waqtch is nice, but some small changes could really make it perfect.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best watch in my collection, September 30, 2005
First off, I have the stainless steel, not titanium. My reasons is the stainless steel, though heavier, hides the scratches to the band a lot better. As with most Citizen watches, this watch is of high quality construction and keeps time accrurately. I work in construction and fly recreationally so this watch not only comes in handy, but it takes a beating as well. I have heard some complain the crystal scratches, but to date, I have no scratches (1 year of ownership and constant wear). The timezone features comes in handy expecially for business travelers who don't like resetting their watch all the time. You can hit two buttons and switch to the new time zone while still showing your hometown in the digital display. Shows date & time, has a chronograph, three alarms and a timer. There are two great additions available for pilots - the right small dial shows UTC (aka universal time), this is very handy when you don't have time to figure out how many hours to deduct (or add) to get to UTC when traveling East/West. The outer dial also allows you to do your time & fuel calculations though I must say, it is hard to read, and what business do you have flying without your proper tools.
This watch goes well with business attire as well as jeans and a t-shirt. Clasp stays locked and I don't have too many arm hairs pulled like with other models. Have successfully tested in water, but not to any depth. One complaint, you have to manually tell the watch when daylight savings time is. Harder to remember for those who live in Arizona, Hawaii and Indy that do not observe daylight savings time.
