Truly ultimate, September 7, 2005
There isn't much music from this generation I care for, but this singer is the one exception I have to make. Both my daughters and I loved Aaliyah. Young and gifted, there has yet to have been a singer in contemporary R&B to come along that can come close to filling the void she left. She definitely earned the title "Princess of R&B".
For those of you who do not have any of Aaliyah's CDs, this CD/DVD collection is a great start. You get all of the beautiful Babygirl's hits from both her albums and movie soundtracks (only one missing: "Journey to the Past" from the "Anastasia" movie soundtrack) and a nice tribute song by Timbaland and Wyclef. The DVD is the original hour-long documentary that VH-1's "Behind The Music" aired and it includes behind the scenes footage, video clips and interviews with Missy Elliott, P. Diddy, Timbaland, Damon Dash and Aaliyah herself.
Watching the documentary always makes me a little emotional; I enjoyed Aaliyah's music very much, and the thought of all that was lost when she was taken from us at such a young age is truly a tragedy. I am older than most of her fans, but that doesn't mean I was not able to appreciate her talent, and that was something Aaliyah definitely had. This collection is truly ultimate, and rest assured, with a wonderful tribute like this, she will never be forgotten.

The "Ultimate Aaliyah" collection, August 7, 2005
This "Ultimate Aaliyah" collection is a must buy. It contains 2 cds and one dvd. This is a great collection. this set features 24 great Aaliyah hits and one of the most touching tributes ever, "Hold On" By Timbaland, Wyclef Jean, and Magoo. That song can make any Aaliyah fan cry. It was just so beautiful. the dvd is also great. It is an extended version of VH1's "Behing the Music" Aaliyah Special (It was edited on tv to air commercials) with interviews with P Diddy, Missy Elliott, Her brother Rashad, Gladys Knight, Usher, Mary J Blige and others. This is a must buy. This is the "Ultimate Aaliyah" collection for the "Ultimate Aaliyah" fan.

A complete timeline of her career! (4.5 stars), April 13, 2006
In a span of only 7 years, Aaliyah Dana Haughton became one of the biggest and brightest stars in R&B. In 2001, she released her self-titled third album to rave reviews and was slated to star in two big-budget films later in the year. However, Aaliyah never lived to reap her newfound success as an ill-fated crash off of the Barbados coast took her life. It's still hard to believe to this day.
Since then, there's been a few compilations to harness Aaliyah's short-lived but successful career. Only one, however, has completely captured her best moments -- "Ultimate Aaliyah". Released in the U.K. in 2005, it's a three-disc set of her greatest hits, grab-bag material, and an hour-long DVD documentary paying tribute to the legacy she departed with. The U.S. saw the release of "I Care 4 U" (which was a decent hits compilation), but this is, by far, the best collection of Aaliyah's career. It includes ALL of her chart entries, (except "Come Over" and "Age Ain't Nuthin But A Number"), NEW unreleased material, and a special documentary of interviews and promo clips from some of the biggest and brightest stars who knew Aaliyah best.
In sum, Aaliyah's entire career is on display with this special collection. You don't have to look elsewhere to find Aaliyah at her best moments (unless you have to have "Age" and/or "Come Over"). As a bonus, you also get a DVD that tells her life through interviews and video clips from some of your favorite stars. This is truly the ultimate collection! Therefore, the only problem I have was its quiet release. An all-encompassing collection of Aaliyah's best moments with a bonus DVD and it gets a quiet U.K. release? Maybe it was contract issues with her label, but this record SHOULD have gotten a U.S. release. If you don't own it, it's a definite must-have, no matter the side of the ocean you're on. Highly recommended for any music fan, especially avid R&B followers.
