5.0 out of 5 stars An Early Caedmon's Call Release, April 9, 2005
By Matt McBrien (Findlay, OH USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This cd was one of Caedmon's Calls first releases. If you are new to Caedmon's Call, do not make this your first purchase. Not because it isn't good, don't get me wrong. I enjoy this album very much.

This album is different from most early Caedmon's Call albums. You may like it more or less, depending on what type of Caedmon's Call listener you are. This album consists of songs all written by Aaron Tate, with the exception of 'There's a Stirring', by Annie Herring. I love Aaron Tate's song-writing ability, but I also love Derek Webb's song-writing ability, and Caedmon's Call was at their best with both writers contributing to an album.

Most of the songs from this album also appear on another album, although some don't, such as some of my personal favorites, Suicidal Stones, and the title track, My Calm Your Storm. If you're a casual listener, go with another Caedmon's Call album, but if you're a definite fan, this is a great addition to the collection.

I felt a need to post this because I saw a song called "Jar of Clay" posted on another review. However, I do not find that song included on the track list of the CD that I have.

5.0 out of 5 stars All I Know Is I Was Blind And Now I See!, June 5, 2006
By Darth Wader (Aylett, VA) - See all my reviews
This was the beginning of something truly special. Although my favorite album will always be the self-titled CD (and Derek Webb's solo CD "She Shall And Must Be Free"), this album is also great. Although tracks like "This World," "Not Enough," and "Coming Home" appear on the self-titled CD, they have a slightly different sound and I like both versions equally. This CD has a more grassroots, independent feel to it with less production, but the sincerity and intelligence of it shines through better than any engineer could manufacture. There are also few better songs that Caedmon's Call have done with Danielle Young on lead vocals than "Too Tender" and "There's A Stirring." They are both truly powerful songs and are must haves for any Caedmon's Call collection. Also, the title track and "All I Know" are very good songs. The title track speaks of how sometimes we needs storms in our life to make us become closer to God. And "All I Know" is taken from the account of Jesus healing the blind man in John 9 and cleverly debates philosophers such as Marx, Freud, and Nietzsche. Some copies of this Cd are different...my copy has "Clean am I" as track 9 while some have "Jar of Clay" as track 9. Not really sure why some copies have one song and some copies have the others (reissue?). Reviewer Matt McBrien made a good point that Caedmon's Call was at their best when Aaron Tate and Derek Webb are contributing to the songwriting, so their is a void of Derek Webb songs on this CD (love the Derek Webb songs on other Caedmon's Call CD's!); however, these songs are all very powerful and if you are able to find this CD, I recommend that you get it.
