5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Linux Distro, April 28, 2005
Pros: Superb interface, very easy to use, full featured distro with over 2000 software applications, very good Yast control panel, excellent hardware support and security features. Top web browers Firefox and Conqueror with all plug-ins installed automatically. Blinded against viruses.

Cons: A bit of a memory hog, 512mb memory recommended. Linux distros do not support a lot of webcams.

I have been using Suse Pro for the past couple of years and their latest version is a gem. Sure it costs a bit more but what you get is the best Linux distro available. Very secure, Novell provides you with continous security updates. Excellent media support.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very complete -- full features, July 21, 2005
I have been using SuSE Linux since version 7.3. I have upgraded the 7.3 to 9.0 the last time, now 9.3 looked very promising. Installation is a breeze. Lots of software including development tools, games, and server functionality. I have been a happy SuSE user for over four years now. I hope they keep up their good work since they got acquired by Novell and won't make major upsetting changes for their licensing and usage. Corporate greed, you never know...

I am an avid Microsoft developer, administrator, and user (MCSE, MCSA, MCDBA), but if you want to get into Linux world, I assure you that you would not be disappointed if you get SuSE Linux 9.3. As they say, "Have a lot Fun!"

Cheers!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not up to the old SuSe standards, June 26, 2005
I've been running various versions of SuSe Linux for several years now. It seems a shame that their level of quality appears to be suffering now that they are working for the Novell bottom line.
I do professional development, and while the distribution is relatively OK, it was surprising to find that the development system as distributed doesn't seem to know much about threads (certainly not the debugger). If all you want is a client side system, then this distro will probably work for you. If you are more serious and in development, try another distro. Even Fedora Core 4 looks better.

4.0 out of 5 stars great way to get started with Linux
I have since moved on to RHEL and then settle on Ubuntu, but Suse Linux is a very comfortable fit for someone transitioning from Windows to Linux.
