Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Africa Remix is an exhibition that, for the first time, gathers contemporary art from the entire African continent. It is the largest exhibition of African art ever assembled in Europe. Artists from 25 countries, from Algeria to Zimbabwe, are represented, as well as African artists now living in Europe or North America. Through the works of 100 artists, unknown or recognized, Africa Remix reveals the various media of creation: painting, drawing, video, sculpture, installations, films, photographs, music, multimedia, and literature. The pieces are grouped around three themes: city/countryside, body/spirit, history/identity.

5.0 out of 5 stars "provocative, dynamic and creative ~ Africa Remix", April 26, 2005
Milan Records presents "Africa Remix: Contemporary Music of a Continent", featuring the collaboration between artists from 25 countries across the continent...the soul of this expression of their culture is heard loud and clear...from the beginning this power house of tradition sets you on your ear with a collective of identities that are fresh as the day they were first heard.

Enjoy the next 16 tracks in artists & song alphabetical order:

AWILO LONGOMBA (Coupe Bibamba with Jocelyne Berouard)
GHORWANE (Ublwilitolo)
JULIANI/JOHNY-BOY/K-SWISS/AGANO (Fanya Tena)
KANDIA KOUYATE (Sanougnaoule)
KEKELE (Affaire Mokuwa)
KONONO No 1 (Paradiso)
MALOUMA (Mreimida)
MANECAS COSTA (Paraiso di Gumbe)
MARIEM HASSAN & LEYOAD (Wajadu)
MORY KANTE (Mama)
ORCHESTRA BADBAB (feat. Youssou N'Dour & Ibrahim ferrer - Hommage a Tonton Ferrer)
OUMOU SANGARE (Djorolen)
TATOUAGES (Silence, on-reve)
THOMAS MAPFUMO & The Blacks Unlimited - (Nherera)
THANDISWA MAZWAI (feat. Apppleseed - Lahl' Umlenze)
YOUSSOU N'DOUR (Plus fort)

Great sounds from a new urban and local talent from the youth of the continent...entire album has a dynamic and multi-structured feel to it...melodies, musical instruments, rhythms have clearly had an impact on todays genres of jazz, blues and rock & roll...without this heritage of traditional music we would be empty...not a nice way to go through life...so on behalf of all music lovers around the world...thank you Africa!

Total Time: 74:00 on 16 Tracks ~ Milan Records 36117 ~ (4/26/2005)
