From the supplier: An evaluation of the potential of biometrics as a tool for security professionals is presented. Biometrics uses human characteristics or behavioral traits to distinguish one individual from another. Market confidence in the technique has not been strong because of its poor track record. Sales of biometric devices in the late 1980s and the 1990s show a trend of renewed interest in biometrics, although their share in the total market for identification systems is very small at 5%.
