From the supplier: A new program at the Columbia College of Education, on the University of Missouri campus, is teaching next-generation educators how to incorporate information technology in a learning environment. The program outfits 350 freshmen with Apple Powerbook notebook computers, equipped with an Ethernet adapter/28.8k modem Type II PC card from Dayna Communications. The mobile capabilities of the students' systems are at the heart of the project, which aims at showing students that the power of communications and the Internet can be used to make classrooms portable. Bundled with the notebook computers is a program developed by University staff, the Interactive Shared Journaling System (ISJS). Students participating in the project use the program, which has Web browser, E-mail, and newsgroup functionality, to create journal entries and post them to the Internet, where other students can share ideas and offer feedback.
